Lost opportunity to reach kids
Revisado: 12-31-21
Great content but the frequent use of the “F” word just for shock value gets old exceptionally quick. It further prevents me from sharing with my young kids.

"You’ve seen it all before. A malicious online rumor costs a company millions. A political sideshow derails the national news cycle and destroys a candidate. Some product or celebrity zooms from total obscurity to viral sensation. What you don’t know is that someone is responsible for all this. Usually, someone like me. I’m a media manipulator. In a world where blogs control and distort the news, my job is to control blogs—as much as any one person can."

Good info, poor narration
Revisado: 01-02-15
I applaud the author for exposing the back room antics, but could not entirely gain from the experience as he is not a good narrator. His speaking was so fast paced that I began tune him out as back ground noise. Having a professional narrator could have earned it another star.

This audiobook could best be described as a lab manual with simple experiments that prove reality is malleable, consciousness trumps matter, and you shape your life with your mind. Yes, you read that right. It says prove. The nine experiments, each of which can be conducted with absolutely no money and very little time expenditure, demonstrate that spiritual principles are as dependable as gravity, as consistent as Newton's laws of motion.

Where does E-Squared rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The book is worth listening to. I enjoyed the content. However the author narrates the book and it is pales in comparison with all the available professional narrators. Her narrative pace almost sounds as if it was playing at 1.15 speed. With professional narration, this book would be great.

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

A real wake up call
Revisado: 01-17-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
YES! I have already recommended this book at least 5 times in the last 3 weeks. It helps to explain some of the interpersonal dynamics I have experienced in my life's adventures.
What???s the most interesting tidbit you???ve picked up from this book?
I was very surprised by the fact that we are statistically surrounded by sociopaths.
Any additional comments?
I only bought this book because of a strong recommendation of a colleague. I anticipated that this book would be entirely scientific and difficult to follow as I am not in the field of this science. I was very pleased to experience a balanced delivery between science and practical examples. The author provides detailed and lengthy scenarios involving these sociopath behaviors. From the well illustrated personality examples, I was able to understand why certain people I have known behave the way they had. And it was very enlightening to learn why I experienced reactions as I had with these same people. As the author explains, sociopaths leave a wake of damage to include making the affected feel as if they were the ones in the wrong.
Is this bedside reading. Not really. But if you have an interest in understanding some current or previous behavior problems with certain controlling individuals, then it may be worth the read.

Please hire a professional narrator
Revisado: 01-17-12
Would you listen to The Shadow Effect again? Why?
I would prefer to read the book over listening to this performance twice. The content was very interesting and worth the single listen, but I WILL NOT listen twice.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I really enjoy the work of Deepak Chopra, but I find his narration very distracting. I was further distracted from the other authors who presented their own chapters.
I recognize and appreciate that some listeners find comfort and sincerity in hearing the authors words spoken by the authors themselves, as if they were attending a seminar with the author. I am not one of those people. After listening to well over 75 audio books I have become accustomed to professional narrators. With professional narrators I am able to relax and take in the content. When hearing professional authors perform like amateurs I become distracted and spend more time trying to become adjusted to their voice and pace.
To help quantify my personal bias, I would much prefer to listen to a musical album that was done in the studio than listen to a concert performance of the same album.
In the future, I will not purchase any audio books that are narrated by their authors. I will save those for print format.

Fantastic history lesson
Revisado: 04-13-09
This was a fantastic delivery peppered with details about this famous narco boss. The author read the book effectively and never distracted me away from evolving time line. The book tries to reflect varying view points of the players present however, it definitely supports the views of U.S. operatives. I hope that the author considers writing a sequel documentary from additional interviews with still living members about their involvement.
Overall, a great listen, highly recommend for those who want to know more about Pablo and his organization.

Not for a beginner
Revisado: 04-12-09
I had bought this book based on my desire to learn more about His Holiness. I am not familiar with him nor am I familiar with his teachings. I found this books lesson a bit too advanced (far reaching) for me as I have no foundation or connection with his teachings. For someone who is familiar with the teachings or is engage with this religion, then it may be a good book. Further, the author/reader brings nothing to the book. If the reader intended to be boring and uninspiring, then he succeeds. I struggled to listen partly because of the monotone readings. Again, if this was the readers intent in collaboration with the style of teachings, then he succeeded.
If you are in tune with the Holiness, its probably a great book. But if this will be your first experience, I suggest another book read by another narrator.

Good Primer
Revisado: 04-12-09
I am a fan of the Hicks. I have many of their books and am always encouraging others to listen. Their style of delivery includes repeating concepts and ideas so you think they are filling time. However, they are trying to get the points to stick in your mind. I gave this book a 3 because it is only a foundation or primer to Volume 2 the Processes. If you have never read one of their books, then get this one. If you have read their books, then jump to Volume 2 as it recaps what was in this volume. Regardless of your past reads, everyone will gain much by listening to this volume.

Excellent documentary
Revisado: 04-12-09
I found this book excellent. I spend a lot of time in Colombia and and interested in how the FARC operates versus what I always heard in the media. Hearing these first hand stories from the inside was fantastic. They do an excellent job recanting the past and bring the experience directly to the listener. Thank god they got out alive and were able to share their story.
This is a great historical document.
