the halfway through review!
Revisado: 02-08-25
13 hours left in the book and I can't think of anything bad that stands out to mark points off. plenty of good points stand out though: Archne's arrival in the world is an interesting mystery, the elves being just slightly inhuman at times is cool, I like the interesting takes of mythological/fantasy creatures, and the item he gets that's probably an overpowered artifact didn't immediately make him awesome. Archne truly has to struggle to survive here and I appreciate him not immediately becoming the master of this new world.

glad I didn't skip this one.

I hate the Ultramarines, maybe I'll just skip this one... nah let's get into it. Okay we've got some Cabal storyline, I'm in. Another surprise guest, I'm intrigued. Is that?? YES LET'S GOOOOO
spoiler free, but this is a free for all of storylines and it's the best showing of my favorite Traitor Primarch. They did my boy justice

my favorite series has a worthy successor
Revisado: 03-08-22
absolutely loved this book, the narrator was great at injecting character into the dozens of roles AND of portraying the droll idiocy of a malazan marine.
story was excellent, picking up in the aftermath of the books of the fallen series. if you haven't read those (you poor fool), than it shouldn't be too much of a hurdle. all these characters are new (with a few cameos), and the historical figures can be just that. all in all I give it a 5/5 WHERE'S THE NEXT BOOK!?s

Historia
The Shadow Crusade has begun. While the Ultramarines reel from Kor Phaeron's surprise attack on Calth, Lorgar and the rest of the Word Bearers strike deep into the realm of Ultramar. Their unlikely allies, Angron and the World Eaters, continue to ravage each new system they come across - upon the garrison planet of Armatura, this relentless savagery may finally prove to be their undoing. Worlds will burn, Legions will clash and a primarch will fall.

Surprisingly characterization
Revisado: 11-06-19
Lorgar and Angron are surprisingly likable for heretics. I mean Angron isn't, but the way he's written makes me not hate him, which is impressive. Kharn.... he's fantastic. I just assumed he was a berserk murder machine. He's a World Eater with nuance! Nuance for the Blood God!

Long has he lived in the shadow of his more favoured primarch brothers, frustrated by the mundane and ignominious duties which regularly fall to his Legion. When Fulgrim offers him the chance to lead an expedition in search of ancient and destructive xenos weaponry, the Iron Warriors and the Emperor's Children unite and venture deep into the heart of the great star maelstrom that haunts Perturabo's dreams.

great book, enjoyed it cover to cover. back and forth perspective between the factions is a fun way to go and it was great to see Chaos taking it's steps toward damnation
