Sacrifice where made…
Revisado: 05-26-24
I’m grateful for the generation before mine who grew up during the Great Depression, and gave up their dreams to go to war to defend, and die for our freedom. This book takes abstract concepts down to a personal level that a vet like myself can relate to. I only wish that the the generation today would listen to this book and understand the deep sacrifices that were made for their freedom. This author has a gift of communicating, at a gut level, what commitment to freedom is at personal level. Please, buy and listen to this book and you will smile while your eyes tear up because, if you know, you know.

Plot Wanders Off into the Weeds
Revisado: 11-25-21
Marc Cameron got bogged down in too much detail that doesn't add much to the plot.
I just could NOT get into the story because the story kept wandering off on tangents.
Scott Brick has his style of narration that, at times, can seem a little too breathy and a teensy over-acting.
This is one of those times when he could have dialed the emotion back a little.
However, that is just my opinion: you may enjoy the book and think it was the bees' knees.

At the height of the air war in Europe, Captain Joe Farley and the baseball-loving, wisecracking crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Fata Morgana are in the middle of a harrowing bombing mission over eastern Germany when everything goes sideways. The bombs are still falling and flak is still exploding all around the 20-ton bomber as it is knocked like a bathtub duck into another world.

This story is written more for a teenage boy's daydream—stereotypical and cliche. I could not finish it and bailed out after chapter eight.

Author and Narrator - Perfect Match
Revisado: 09-08-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, because the author has told a story that kept me drawn in and really caring about the characters. That alone would put this title in the top ten for me. However, this is an audio book and the narrator can either ruin a book or take it to a higher lever. George Guidall, is truly a voice-actor who brings the characters to life.. Kellerman & Guidall are a perfect match.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Each character in this story is believable and each character helps bring the plot forward. I had an emotional reaction to the characters and that means good writing.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr. Guidall, has the ability to change his voice in a subtle way; he takes on the gender, age, mentality or emotional state of the character. He is never over-the-top or obviously being an actor "doing" a female, child or elder voice. He becomes the character and that is the voice that character would have. Mr. Guidall, could read the phone book and most would be happy to listen. I have many titles in my library and would rate this title in the top 20. I wish I could give it a higher rating. You can buy this title with confidence of a good story read by one of the best narrators.
Any additional comments?
I bought the title because Mr. Guidall, was the narrator and delightfully discovered that Fay Kellerman, is such a great author. I hope that Mr. Guidall, will continue to narrate this series.

Historia
Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the so-called Creedish Death Cult, is dictating his life story into the flight recorder of Flight 2039, cruising on autopilot at 39,000 feet somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. He is all alone in the airplane, which will crash shortly into the vast Australian outback. But before it does, he will unfold the tale of his journey from an obedient Creedish child and humble domestic servant to an ultra-buffed, steroid-and-collagen-packed media messiah.

Whew...It's Over.
Revisado: 05-02-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Mr. Palahniuk has a style of writing that I would describe as a rollercoaster ride. While some of his stories are fast paced, exciting and fun; this ride left me drained and feeling queasy. When the narration was over, I was happy to lift the safety bar and leave. Your experience may be different though.
What could Chuck Palahniuk have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Enjoyable? There are some quirky, insightful points of view in the story. However, I don't see how this book could ever come off as an enjoyable read.
Have you listened to any of Paul Garcia’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Paul Garcia, is a great narrator with a wide range of voices. He is good. His narration was what got me through to the end. I will search for other performances/narrations by him.
Could you see Survivor being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Sadly, yes. There is a character in this book called the Agent. I can see a Hollywood "Agent" type turning this book into some superficial CGI. There would be some irony there.
Any additional comments?
I hope this review is helpful. I admit that I am not an English Lit major and don't know much about tropes or styles of writing. I’ve listened to the finish and this review is really, just one guy's opinion. Read all the reviews and decide if you want to jump in the pool. What the heck, go ahead and listen to it. Then, figure out if you went into the deep end or the shallow end of the pool. You might like it. - I dare you.

Revisado: 01-07-13
Where does Matthew Flinder's Cat rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would rank this novel at 85% of over 700 Audible Books I have purchased. However, that is mostly meaningless because, while I am an Average Guy, it's only my personal opinion. I do not think you would be disappointed with the novel because, woven throughout a very good story, there are a few nuggets of knowledge we all can benefit from
What did you like best about this story?
A better understanding of the causes of an addictive personality.
Have you listened to any of Humphrey Bower’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Humphrey Bower is a great voice actor who brings to life each and every character in the story. He makes you care, very much, about them. Mr. Bower is right up there with Mr. George Guidall, who, I believe, could read the phone book and make it come alive.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
In the very beginning when Billy is getting hassled by the local cop; I began to care about what was going to happen to him. That is the moment I got hooked and wanted to find out how the rest of the story developed.

Coben takes you to the Dark Side on this one.
Revisado: 04-03-12
I am a fan of Harlan Coben. However, this story's plot seems a teensy on the Dark Side. Scott Brick has a style ??? no matter what he is narrating; a overly dramatic New York/Jersey accent. It???s hard to get into the story???s character because it always Scott Brick. That said, this story does take place in ??? New Jersey, so, perhaps Scott was a natural choice for this book. Over all, I liked the way he read this book. Harlan Coben, takes his fans on a different ride ??? far away from the Myron Bolitar series. Over all, I would recommend the book.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Revisado: 11-19-11
Normally, I am not a fanatical fan of all Stephen Kings works because I don't enjoy dark and scary. However, this story drew me in, held me and delivered me right to the front door of WOW. It was interesting to Google Map the many addresses mentioned in the story while listening. I am ex-military and an old crusty kind of guy. I wan't exactly "crying" at the ending of the story; its closer to say my eyes were "glistening" while wearing a happy smile.
