Historia
Winter's chill has descended on Stockholm as police arrive at the scene of a shocking murder. An unidentified woman lies beheaded in a posh suburban home - a brutal crime made all the more disturbing by its uncanny resemblance to an unsolved killing 10 years earlier. Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Over the course of two weeks, everything in Beartown will change. Two years have passed since the events that no one wants to think about. Everyone has tried to move on, but there’s something about this place that prevents it. The destruction caused by a ferocious late-summer storm reignites the old rivalry between Beartown and the neighboring town of Hed, a rivalry which has always been fought through their ice hockey teams. Another remarkable work
Revisado: 01-23-23
This author somehow understands and writes about people at a level beyond what should be possible. He grabs my soul, makes me laugh, makes me cry. It is sometimes unbearable and always somehow uplifting. What a gift he shares with those who find his books.

Historia
Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

Another marvelous read!
Revisado: 05-15-22
Every one of Fredrick Backman’s books is a treasure. Soul reaching, personal, wonderful characters. You will see yourself somewhere in these characters who live real lives and experience real world struggles. Often gut wrenching, always somehow uplifting. This is another jewel.

Historia
Jeremy “JB” Barnes is looking forward to spending the summer before seventh grade hanging on the beach. But his mother, a scientist, has called for him to join her aboard a research ship, where, instead, he’ll spend his summer seasick and bored as he stares out at the endless plastic, microbeads, and other floating debris, both visible and not, that make up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Miles and miles away, 12-year-old Sidney Miller is trying to come up with an alternate activity worthy of convincing her overprotective parents that she can skip summer camp.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old Klee's father was the center of his life. He introduced Klee to the great museums of New York City and the important artists on their walls, he told him stories made of myths and magic. Until his death. Now, forced to live in the suburbs with his mom, Klee can't help but feel he's lost all the identifying parts of himself. That is until he meets wild and free Sarah in art class, with her quick smiles and jokes. But when an act of betrayal sends him reeling, Klee lands in what is bitingly referred to as the "Ape Can", a psychiatric hospital for teens in Northhollow.

Deeply personal and insightful story
Revisado: 07-06-18
In Sight if Stars is an unfolding story of pain and fear and healing and optimism. It is beautifully written and wonderfully read. The story becomes richer as it moves forward, blending past and present, revealing its full wonder bit by bit. The ending is thoughtful and fulfilling. You will wish you could come back for more, to see what the future holds. Gae Polisner is a gifted writer who brings her characters to life beautifully, and addresses the realities of life frankly and openly. Bravo.

Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.
