A fresh world, unique mythology and wonderfully told!
Revisado: 06-26-24
Let me begin with how much I enjoyed these books. A clever twist on fantasy saga in a unique world that teases us with familiar, yet well characters wholly their own. Anderson intrigued me with the premise while the reading carried the tale by bringing them to life.
If I have one criticism, it is that the young god, a self-made man at 15- now 17 in the story, seems overly immature for someone that the tale begins as describing as someone the community came to for help or wisdom. I think it was a small miss as he is wonderfully a boy when needed and very mature when the story requires. This may only a personal issue, rather than global problem for the stories.
The mythology and history of the world is fun, fresh and carries the promise of a wide world to read in. The careful conduit provides- obviously, as there are many books in the series- for so much. Unique gods who are a mystery and their relation to the world, and their predecessors are the key to this tale but subtle, as Mankind and Elvenkind are left to their own rule. Hence, the fallout between races that brings us to the moment where the young god, Darshan, becomes entangled in the tale of prophecy and intrigue.
I’ve finished these three books and wanted more, but also felt a bit as though more could have been fit into these books. After considering it, I realize it has been written as a sort of serial, and you should not enter the reading of these expecting each book to finish a segment other than as conveyance to the next part of the story. It is worth the reading, especially if you look for something to fill several slots in your reading list. As the first three books (the omnibus) is included with kindle unlimited, you cannot go wrong and will only enjoy the ride!

Fresh new world and character driven story
Revisado: 02-16-23
An easy read/listen and a creative new world with all the aspects of fantasy, reality of life, and tension built on character need.
I have not read a series that showed characters as the primary feature in their tales- most of the adventure is taken up with getting to the ‘dungeon’ and learning about how our heroes struggle internally and with the world around them and the charge that they were given to fulfill. After listening to the authors epilogue I have greater respect and understanding for the characters struggles, and look forward to more.

Grows on you
Revisado: 06-26-20
First of all five stars for Andrea Parsneau! A varying cast of characters that must have kept you busy!
I almost returned this book, twice! I listened and was so frustrated at the poor logic that starts the book that I wondered if it had been solely edited by friends. Editing can be the most difficult task in writing.
The book grows on you though.
There is almost zero through-line in the way of story development but the characters are unique and it seems like it’s been adapted from an RPG campaign (?)
I like some of the characters and was bored enough and too grumpy while driving to work to change the book. I am happy I kept listening. It is a lot of bang for your buck.
I may purchase the next book to see what occurs. I just hope Pirate Aba gets some better editing to chop some of the fat and/or develop the more intriguing elements. You almost could have skipped the Inn and begun your story with Ryoka. I understand Arron is key to the long game.
That said.
This is a lot of work and kudos for all that it takes to create such a long tale, map it out, write it and get it to print!!
Thank you for the 82,6% enjoyment value:)
I find myself thinking more and more about purchasing the upcoming book which is even longer!
Let yourself get past the first hour and ten minutes and you’ll return it or keep on going, with Joy in your heart.

These former pillars of traditional power have been replaced by networks of informed citizens who collectively wield more power over their personal lives, employers, and worlds than ever before. So how do you navigate this new landscape and come out on top? Adam Grant, Wharton organizational psychologist, went to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the epicenter of power, and sat down with thought leaders from around the world, to find out.

Begrudgingly I really like it.
Revisado: 10-20-18
without a doubt the interesting limitations of the genre, i.e. pages/ minutes of leveling details lost on me, detract only partially. Kong writes well enough, if not a little repetitively, and aside from the obvious gamer sexist times, the tale is unique and enjoyable.
I really come back again and again because of Podehls superb storytelling. He brings so much character to the thin parts that the dynamic pieces live strong and truly entertain.

another unique world
Revisado: 09-21-18
I love the obvious range of Lawrence. he had a great knack for creating unique worlds and powers.
the reader wass excellent and though the voice and style of this book are markedly different to his other series I found myself listening to the end. It did take me some time to understand why this book felt off in comparison to other books ive read by Lawrence, but when I did, I was surprised.
all the wonderful characters seem to share their voices with Lawrence. Where in his earlier series everyone is so distinct one wonders how they could manage to work with one another, it took some time to feel the separation of personalities in this tale.
None the less, it's intrigue will carry me into its sequel aaaaand I'll look forward to reading more from this author who had great breadth of style and imagination.
thank you for your hard work and well conceived mythologies. I look forward to finding out what the secrets of this world are.

still fun, a little 'typical gamer' stuff
Revisado: 08-11-18
Podehl is great.
The story is still fun.
Aside from the unique style and listen my only gripe is that the female characters are all either sexualized or 'evil bitches' to use the author's language.
sometimes the hot of rpg is to play stereo typical characters, and someones it is to break those molds.
I'll assume Kong chose the latter and say the overall feel still left me wanting more. If the personifications continue and permeate throughout the tales I may have to change my mind about continuing.

simple. stylish. enjoyable.
Revisado: 08-06-18
You cannot go wrong with Podehl being your text. Kong's gamer style and storyline are enjoyable and a fun ride. two books in and I may continue with the series. It may lack the complexity of other fantasy tales, and I am still getting used to narration of leveling up that disturbs the flow, but I am now convinced this is due to the genre.
For that tale at large, theres is a lot of world building. My only quasi- complaint is that I am two books in and still awaiting any small payoff regarding the deal powers plan that drew Richter to The Land. this doesn't very in the way of enjoying the stories being told. there is still some enjoyment to watching the games including. I just miss that tension of knowing something the characters do not that places urgency to actions they are as of yet still unaware of needing to perform.
Worth the credit easily as well as the time to listen.
Kong certainly enjoys what he is doing, and, by extension, so do I.

not my gig, but soooo pleasant surprised!
Revisado: 07-30-18
I have to say I greatly enjoyed this. once I got the rhythm down of listening to a story that was, in effect, like watching someone play a video, like playing an actual campaign rpg, I found myself intrigued and enjoying the tales.
things happen easily, but then, they often can do so while gaming.
I'll keep trying these as long as it keeps pace, and I assume I'll be listening to them all thanks to Kong's stylish game sense, and talents for writing tales.
But wait, there's more!!...
