On the other side of the rift.

When the great rift opened up in the 40k universe we got a glimpse at what the galaxy looked like in "Dark Imperium:" ripped in two the Imperium endures.

Yet we never got word of what was it like in the Dark Imperium - the northern side of the rift, now we know. Trapped on the other side and lacking the guiding light of Terra the forces of the Imperium fight in sector-focused clusters, driving back the endless hordes of Chaos as they enter and attack from all fronts.

While the Imperium proper in the south can fend off enemies on concentrated fronts (ie: Western front WW1), the Dark Imperium is akin to Dien Bien Phu when the French were there in the 50s: surrounded, running out of supplies, and losing ground.

The Spears are the last of three chapters, cut off from the Imperium proper for so long that anyone claiming to be from the Imperium is met with scorn and suspicion. Yet despite their desperate state they still have weapons of war; old relics, cobbled-together warships, beached battleships turned into defense platforms, and out-of-date weaponry mixed with newer tech which the Imperium provided via data files - they had to make it from scratch with the blueprints.

There is no frontline in the Dark Imperium, for the enemy attack on all fronts, and must be countered on all fronts - only localized resistance is possible now, and whatever was garrisoned in each sector and sub-sector will be what they have on hand to fight as the enemies close in around them.

Dark times indeed.

A look into the Eater of Worlds, their Lord, and the fateful event that changed them - shaped them into the Legion that we know today.

A sad story, a brutal story; filled with blood, anger, and fear.

The Warhounds are dogs no more, for now they are truly the Eater of Worlds - the Butcher's Nails hummed in the meat of their minds.

Religious fervor has always been a key element in 40k lore concerning the Imperium, and in this audio drama we get exactly what we expected from a story concerning a saint of the Imperium.

Full of intrigue, politics, and the typical: "drive me closer I want to hit them with my sword!" bluster that we have come to associate with Warhammer 40,000 this audio drama will not disappoint.

Outstanding cast; both veteran and new voices make their mark on the 40k universe and it shows - the work they put in is from enthusiasm and passion.

Let your faith in the Emperor be rewarded: let his light shine into your soul! Get this drama today!

This is the story of Ferrus Manus and his Legion, the Iron Hands.

Unlike Lorgar, Bearer of the Word (and presumably the other Primarchs books) this book does not center around Ferrus Manus and his upbringing: instead what we have is a tale of how the surrounding world reacts to him and how he interacts with it.

This story is told from a couple different perspectives, and is set during a compliance campaign which is perfect for a story centered around a Primarch. While some might feel that this book is missing the point, I have a theory that Ferrus is supposed to be a mystery - even to his own sons.

Take from it what you will, but ultimately it is a good story set during the days before the Heresy - before Horus set the skies on fire and dragged the Imperium into a brutal civil war. Give it a try; you can always return it and spend the credit on a different title if the style is not to your satisfaction.

The headline will make sense when you listen to the audio drama.

Black Library delivers an outstanding performance with a top-notch cast, and the writing for the drama will leave Warhammer fans happy and wanting more.

I have never dived into Gotrek's story, nor the Age of Sigmar universe, but after listening to this audio drama I have a renewed interest in both Gotrek's story arc and the greater Age of Sigmar universe.

Warhammer fans and new listeners will find this title to be well worth their time and coin (or credit) - happy listening.

A short but sweet tale of a Vindicare Assassin and her mission to eliminate an assigned target - yet not all is as it seems and a twist at the end will leave one pleasantly surprised.

Picking up from where the last book left off we have our now Second Lieutenant taking the fight to the enemy - all while dealing with some minor topics on the home front.

The story felt, slow - a loss of steam, it seemed. There is a lot of running around, and a good portion of the story is set back home as the Lieutenant and his wife contemplate the future. Definitely a lot more personal drama this time around, but it makes sense in the grand scheme.

A good entry, but not as appetizing as Chains of Command, Lines of Departure, and Terms of Enlistment.
