Great story, good narrator but horrible narrative.
Revisado: 03-09-23
Great story. Well written, no surprise from such a fabulous author.
Mr. Woods did his research and I feel a bit as if I've visited Florida.
The characters are distinct, 3 dimensional and realistic.
The narrative is horrible, not the narrator, her voice or her actual narrative, I've listened to her before and enjoyed it, but how the director had her narrate. The way they chose to represent Holly, for example, did NOT fit her character at all. It was jarring and I eventually just went back to reading the text version. Mr. Woods, if you read these reviews, listen and see for yourself and you'll immediately request a do over. Ms Campbell, I'm so sorry they did this to you.
Buy the print version until there's a do over. 3 stars- 5 for the story, 0 for the narrative = 3 stars.

When Raini desperately needed help, she went to the one person who she knew could save her dying friend...her secretive and ruthlessly powerful anchor, Maddox. His price was that she grant him access to her life, yet he's still determined not to form the anchor bond with Raini. That rejection stings, even while she can't stop her body - or her demon - reacting to his presence.

Suzanne Wright never disappoints.
Revisado: 03-30-22
This latest addition to the series is an inventive, exciting (in all the ways this word can be used,) innovative wild ride.
As always, I mostly review the author, series and\or the narrator as there are tons of reviews with synopses out there.
Another reviewer said it was a repetition of the Harper and Maddox story and I can't figure out how. Well, they're, mostly, demons, there's a bond, the world is the same but so not the same story.
One reason Suzanne's stories are so popular is that they don't get stale as the series continues.
I haven't yet read a book she's written that I don't like.
Enjoy. I did.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Masterfully narrated!
Revisado: 03-26-22
There are dozens of reviews with synopses of this most excellent story so I'm rating the narrator.
There are only a few narrators who are so skilled as to complement the author as if they'd discussed or rehearsed with said author and Andy Serkis is one.
Mr. Serkis brings this story alive.
I'm in my 60's and read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings for the first time when I was 9 and have reread them more times than I want anyone to know- I know these books.
When they first came out on audiobooks I jumped right in and bought them without preview. I couldn't stand them, didn't get through 10 chapters before I just gave up listening. Then I found out about these, previewed, purchased and sat entranced by this masterful rendition of all my old friends.
Andy Serkis, I'm a fan.
Readers- buy, listen and be captivated by both kinds of Master Storytellers.

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Ms. Briggs ROCKS!
Revisado: 03-23-22
There are lots synopses in other reviews so mine is more about the author.
To me, this story, as are all Ms. Briggs stories, about hope and the belief that there is some good, maybe a tiny bit of good, even in evil beings.
Mercy's world is so well crafted and researched that you believe, while you're visiting, in non-human beings, in magic, in the fantasy- light and dark.
Her characters are so distinct and complete that you'll get invested in them and miss them when they're gone. Even the background characters (what we gamers call NPC's) are defined well enough to recognize them from book to book.
Although it's a tough choice and I own and have reread both the e and audio versions of all her books, in the Mercy vs. Alpha and Omega series debate, IMHO Mercy rules.
Enjoy the ride!

Loved it!!
Revisado: 03-21-22
A worthy addition to the Mercyverse.
Imaginative, well researched, great world building, well drawn characters, excellent dialogue.
Someone said it was kinda boring. I'm not sure why... love, action, werewolves, fae, vampires, witches... all with a Briggs twist that simply fascinates.
These books, as with Mercy's, are best enjoyed in order; either by series or in chronological order as listed on PB's site. One of the few authors I've reread multiple times.
Enjoy!!

I so enjoyed this book!
Revisado: 01-11-22
I always think of Sheherazade when listening to Nalini Singh's books and of the lovely dances of India when reading them. Her books sigh.
Her world building is flawless and inventive; seamlessly blending heart, mind, body and soul along with elements of horror, eroticism, the flavors of world history (and herstory)- factual and spiritual- into a song.
Her descriptions are succinct with each word used to it's fullest.
All her characters, from bit players to stars, are finely drawn and layered complete with little ideosyncracies that make them whole.
As with the best storytellers, she draws you in and you believe, transported into unreality, breathless for more.
Ms.Eyre is a gifted voice actor that breathes life into the narrative. Her vocal representation of the characters is masterful. One of the few that make listening to a book as good or better than reading it.

Cass Clereaux is good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third - but not because she wants to be good at hiding. Cass is a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon's soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet - she has the power to find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals. But it doesn't come without a price - stealing powers requires that she kill, and others would destroy her if they discover what she is.

Great storytelling and world building; a fun romp.
Revisado: 05-06-21
Great storytelling and world building make these stories believable.
Intelligent, imaginative, addictive.
I'm in my 60's and didn't really expect to relate to these kids but was sucked in. A good storyteller will do that.
The author knows her stuff and it shows through the aforementioned world building. Her characters are fully developed filling out more and more through the story. There's action, history, magic, love, bad guys, Big Bads, good guys, Heros (which includes the ladies) and hope- can't forget the hope.
All in all a fun romp, in both E and audio books. The narrator is one of the good ones.

The narrator's voice is annoying.
Revisado: 01-29-20
The story is entertaining. Enough so I'm going to get the e-book to finish it.
The narrator is annoying. Every time the female lead spoke I wanted to slap her. The tone didn't match the words nor the scene and was chalkboard scratching irritating.
I'll update if the e-book version was better.

Unique world building, great story.
Revisado: 11-13-19
This book is great. Unique world building, interesting 3-D characters, snark abounds (yay!), unpredictable - a plus for a woman who's read (listened to, same thing) at least a book a day over some 60 years, great story.
I keep trying to figure out how to describe this book, and the series, without spoilers. if you want spoilers, read most other reviews. I can't. I can say that this has become one of my few re-read series.
The narrative is very well done except for one thing, learn how to pronounce lycanthropy and Hecate, among others.

Better and better.
Revisado: 10-31-18
There are many reviews detailing the storyline, characters and world building so I will just say read this whole series from the beginning.
Often, after a few books in a series, the plots, execution and wow factor deteriorate. These books just keep improving; picking up seemingly forgotten threads and either tying them off or weaving a little more to keep interest high
From first to last Faith Hunter takes us on an emminently fascinating, even believable, ride. The story would be awesome even without the supernatural stuff. This is the definition of Storyteller.
