But they are also four kids chosen for an elite middle school track team - a team that could qualify them for the Junior Olympics. My Favorite of the Series
Revisado: 04-26-18
I’m a 7th grade teacher and this resonated with me because I know these kids...the Sunnys of the world. Plus, I have ADHD and all I could think about was how his brain and mine were wired similarly. Thank you for these words Mr. Reynolds, and thank you for the performance Mr. Lockard. Stellar!

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Great story, but a LOT of cussing!
Revisado: 04-18-18
I am a 7th grade teacher, and while I’m sure many of my students hear this type of language everyday, I would hate to add to the barrage of cussing going into their ears. This story was very relevant though, and so I will only share it with those who are mature enough to handle it. I want my students to explore how they would feel if this situation became their reality. I’m also sure that this language was a specific choice by the author due to the reality of the way teens speak in the setting. This novel is beautifully written and the story is one that can break the bindings on those who won’t ‘snitch’ even when they know it’s the right thing to do.

Anger then Love
Revisado: 02-20-18
When this title first begins you are going to have strong emotions about the lead character and his mom. Then, as it progresses, Jacobson expertly weaves together a story that makes your compassion take over. It’s a wonderful read that even teenagers will love.

Historia
It's not easy being Claire. (Really.) Claire's life is a joke...but she's not laughing. While her friends seem to be leaping forward, she's dancing in the same place. The mean girls at school are living up to their mean name, and there's a boy, Ryder, who's just as bad, if not worse. And at home nobody's really listening to her - if anything they seem to be more in on the joke than she is. Then into all of this (not-very-funny-to-Claire) comedy comes something intense and tragic.

If You Love Out of My Mind, You'll Love Falling Over Sideways
Revisado: 09-25-17
This book is such a sweet and touching look at Claire who is transforming right before our eyes. Nothing is going right, in fact everything is going wrong, but she is slowly growing up. If you loved Out of My Mind, and Counting by 7s, you will appreciate this book as well.

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

Not the same level of story as Girl on the Train
Revisado: 07-20-17
I just didn't feel drawn into the story this time. It was very disjointed to me. I did finish the story, although I don't believe it's the same level of depth as her previous titles.

Great end to a wonderful series!

This was an extremely satisfying ending to this witty and wholesome book series. I'm looking forward to more. The actor performing the voice work was fantastic. So many unique voices.

Historia
Over the course of 10 Mitford novels, fans have kept a special place in their hearts for Dooley Kavanagh, first featured in At Home in Mitford as a barefoot, freckle-faced boy in filthy overalls. Now, Father Tim Kavanagh's adopted son has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money will be tight for a while, maybe he and Lace Harper, his once and future soul mate, should keep their wedding simple.
