Honestly the sex scenes were so cringy. The story jumped around, the main character was annoying . I wish I could take back there I spent on this book.

Slow story with annoying characters

The narrator read too slow, the story dragged on and focused on sexuality too much for the time period. Honestly worst book I’ve read in awhile and I use to love this author.

Not what you’d expect

I’ve read almost all of Kelley Armstrong’s books. This one is no where near as good as her normal work. The characters are all whining and it drags on.

Unfortunate Addition

I am a huge Kelley Armstrong fan, I’ve read almost all of her books. However, this is the first book I couldn’t finish and truly was disappointed in. The narration of the French accent was so distracting. The story was also unrealistic to either characters time periods and quite frankly had too much sexual innuendos that would only be said in current day, and seemed forced in certain parts. I’m all for strong characters who own who they are, but honestly these characters were over the top and their interactions would never happen. It honestly felt like there was a checklist of topics to hit that were forced into the plot that made the story very unnatural.

This series story is extremely juvenile. The drama is very late elementary or at best early middle school. The conversations that the characters have are cringe worthy.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would say parts of the story, I would have liked to know that the entire story was going to be about something that took place a decade before the first book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Spider?

The introduction to main characters and how Gin met them as well as getting to know Fletcher more

Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, she sounds the same as she always does.

Could you see The Spider being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think it could be made into a TV series.

Spoiler- I strongly disliked that it showed Gin seeing her sister at the party and that she didn't recognize her. To me that is extremely fake as you would recognize your own sister or at least her voice.

I loved the plot twists that were unpredictable

What didn’t you like about Mary Robinette Kowal’s performance?

She didn't use the same voice for the characters that she did in all previous books and occasionally would switch the accent in the story causing confusion, the most irritating change is on how she pronounced the word Knowe in this book compared to the last seven.
