Couldn't do it
Revisado: 04-06-23
Made it somewhere into book two, where it switched from Sci-Fi to young adult romance. I can handle some romance, but just wasn't feeling it in this one so I ended up skipping minutes at a time and finally refunding. If you like space sci-fi and a strong female protagonist, check out the Honor Harrington Series by David Weber.

Vie Tried to Venjoy Vhe Story
Revisado: 05-16-22
Like many others Vie had a hard time vith the extremely thick accents, but Travertine just about made me quit. Maybe Vie spaced out during the part where they explain what's going on here but Ve seems to be some sort of asexual being that gets random made-up pronouns thrown at ver, both male & female. It has no function in the story other than being jarring and making ve concentrate on vhe strange vronouns rather than what's going on. Vhy bother including this?

Historia
Someone is telling the story of the life of Charlie Barnes, and it doesn't appear to be going well. Too often divorced, discontent with life's compromises, and in a house he hates, this lifelong schemer and eternal romantic would like out of his present circumstances and into the American dream. But when the twin calamities of the Great Recession and a cancer scare come along to compound his troubles, his dreams dwindle further, and an infinite past full of forking paths quickly tapers to a black dot.

Couldn't do it
Revisado: 02-26-22
I gave this more than a fair shake - made it halfway through, kept speeding up playback hoping it would take off. Nothing wrong with the writing and clearly from the mixed reviews some people loved it but I stopped and refunded at about the 5 hour mark. Not even Nick Offerman could keep me interested.

I'll start by saying that if you like Young Adult novels you might enjoy this. There is a decent premise here, but the writing and dialog is so juvinile that I completely stopped caring about the characters and moved on to another book.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

One of the most important books in print
Revisado: 11-13-19
I'm stunned at all of the one star reviews. Gladwell clearly lays out some important national issues and shows how we might be looking in the wrong place for solutions. If you feel like young people should be able to binge drink and then hold each other accountable for their actions during blackouts, maybe this isn't for you. if you think aggressive policing in low crime areas will somehow help crime, maybe this isn't for you.

Brilliant on all levels
Revisado: 04-26-19
I put off this book for a long time because I wanted to see more of the series come out, but took the plunge last week. Story was incredible - lots of detail but not the useless, space-filling kind. I was waiting to see if it would derail toward the end with some cheesy reveal, but the mystery and wonder remains intact. Now I am very impatient for the next book in the series!

If you know Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation, you should definitely check out his books. Not only is Mogworld funny, but the man can tell a good story, and having him narrate it is the icing on the cake. I forced my wife to hear several of the lines from this book against her will and enjoyed the entire experience.

Editing Issues Mar a Great Performance & Story
Revisado: 04-25-18
Haven't read a King story I didn't like and this was no exception. Unfortunate editing issues jolt you out of the story multiple times, but other than that it's great. Several times during the story, a word will be suddenly cut before it finishes. It sounds like some sort of automated gating was used, but with poor settings. Sometimes it's at a chapter break but not always.

Even my non-audiobook wife loved this
Revisado: 06-22-16
Any additional comments?
Larry has become one of my favorite authors - I would say everything he publishes is a must read, but with this being free, you can't go wrong. Performance by Adam Baldwin was top notch and also made a lot of meta jokes even better. This style reminds me of Robert Krose, who I also love. If you have no sense of humor, move on.

Historia
For the 38 million Americans who suffer from anxiety and/or depression (and for those who treat them), Dr. Daniel G. Amen has liberating news. Using a sophisticated brain-imaging technology called SPECT (single photon emissions computed tomography), Amen and his colleagues have discovered that these disorders are the result of measurable brain dysfunction, of physical neurological conditions that clinicians can actually see. And what they can see, they can treat more effectively than ever before.

Valuable Information For Anyone
Revisado: 10-03-08
I can see why some of the negative reviewers are disappointed with the reference format of this book. I don't share that view though.
I recently started suffering from panic attacks that were so severe I was unable to work or even go to a restaurant. I had no prior history of this and it was terrifying.
This book has been part of the discovery process for me and the information has helped my understanding of different conditions increase greatly.
If you already know all about anxiety and depression, this may not be for you, but I enjoyed the information so much that I also bought a hard copy so I could review specific areas.
I will concede that audio may not be the best format for this book, but if it didn't exist on Audible I never would have checked it out. I'm terrible at reading non fiction so the audio format worked out great.
That said, this is mostly an informational (reference) book, not a guide for self healing. There are many tips given for dealing with symptoms, but it's not the main focus of the book.
For those searching specifically for help with anxiety, I recommend "Hope and Help for Your Nerves" by Dr. Claire Weekes.
