Should be be essential reading
Revisado: 03-12-25
I’ve listened to the story multiple times now. It’s a compilation of three different books that all connect. The first book is an absolute classic, the second one is my favorite, and I get choked up at the end of the third book every time. If you’ve listened to it then you know what I mean.
The stories are all brilliant on their own but all together, they are a masterpiece.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Wow this was incredible. I got the book because I love Euan Morton’s performances, but the story was even more worth it! I bought the book in hard copy for my brother before even finishing the audio.

Surrounded and outgunned, a group of private military contractors known as “Strange Company” find themselves on a remote planet at the edge of known space, and on the losing end of a bad contract. Orbital D-beam strikes, dropships bristling with auto-guns, missiles, and troops - even Monarch space marines in state-of-the-art advanced battle rattle - will try to prevent the company from reaching the exfil LZ and getting off-world.

Really enjoyable.
Revisado: 02-06-23
Really great narration, you can really feel the characters in the narrators voice. However, the writing can be somewhat redundant. The author repeats himself often, and uses the same phrases multiple times throughout the book. Also tends to be a lot of internal monologue that interrupts almost every situation which gets frustrating.

Amazing narration

This is the first book I’ve ever heard with a female narrator and she does an amazing job. Very emotional in certain spots but sells the main character’s stoic personality so well!

Great story, good narrator
Revisado: 11-16-22
The narration was enjoyable, but there’s a lot of singing and humming in the story and the narrator refuses to sing or even pick up a tune so it’s a lot of awkward moments of him tunelessly reciting “hmm hm hmmm hm hmm hmmm”

A riveting original story by Karen Traviss!
Revisado: 07-24-22
Nothing pairs as well as a Karen Traviss story and a Euan Morton narration! The author does such a wonderful job of explaining thought processes from all characters good or bad. Even if we know that the character is corrupt, she still makes the thought processes seem completely logical so that we can understand the motivations of each character perfectly. Even the ones that we know are corrupt or wrong. If there’s one thing this book does well, it’s getting into the heads of the characters and showing you who they are by how they think!

Don’t let the new narrator deter you!
Revisado: 07-24-22
Even though it’s a disappointment that Euan Morton isn’t narrating this one, don’t let that deter you! The story is fantastic! And the new narrator, though not as riveting as Morton, is still good.

Revisado: 03-24-22
As always Karen Traviss blew me away with this one. I couldn’t put it down. No one writes Artificial intelligence like she does. I didn’t think any series could beat her Kilo 5 trilogy, but if this book is anything to go off of then by the time this series is done I’ll have a new favorite series! Can’t wait for the next one!

Wonderful
Revisado: 07-20-21
It’s a great book that is about 65% practical advice and 35% philosophy, and Adam seamlessly switches between the two so that building and making sounds like a spiritual experience, and Adam’s personal philosophy sounds like practical instruction. He gives entertaining personal stories that perfectly illustrate his point. I’ll be taking most of his advice on how to organize my shop, and deciding what tools I need!
