Historia
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Revisado: 01-22-21
The authors want for the intellectual left to listen to the extreme right but they are intolerant of anything the left has to say.

Engaging and informative
Revisado: 07-29-20
Hard to put down. Engaging story line. Poetic language, however felt that some language was discriminatory of black people in Puerto Rico. A correction for the author: the Spanish language word "Mole" is of Nahuatl origin (Aztec Language) and not the creation of a Spanish cook.

Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness

Historia
Over the past 50 years, rates of autoimmunity and chronic disease have exploded. In this provocative book, Dr. Thomas Cowan argues for a direct causal relationship to a corresponding increase in the number of vaccines American children typically receive. The goal of these vaccines is precisely what we’re now seeing in such abundance among our chronically ill children: the provocation of immune response. Cowan looks at emerging evidence that certain childhood illnesses are actually protective of disease later in life.

Contradicts self
Revisado: 05-27-20
I was impressed by his book about the heart, but
In this one... the contradictions are ver difficult to swallow. He states that infections are good to train your immune system but that is exactly what immunizations do. He states there is no elevation of immunoglobulin in asthma, but immunoglobulin E can be elevated in asthma and allergies.
He mentioned Coley's toxins were good, but diphtheria vaccine does the same thing.
Sorry, I can not recommend this book

Lots of information and perspective. The handling of immigration was superficial and naive since it did not include the history of intervention and exploitation of poor countries by powerful countries.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

useful, practical advise but naive in some areas.
Revisado: 08-02-18
I enjoyed this book. I think the author's perspective is necessary for anyone who is interested in understanding reality, particularly when it comes to being able to interpret news, talks and opinions. He clearly lays the foundation that will be very useful for me in my pursue of understanding of reality in general.
Where if falls short is where he visualizes that the poorest people in the world will move up the social economical ladder just by hard work or just by the general improvement in "conditions". I think this is wishful thinking. I think that many of the new economy jobs are very different from the ones people had access to in the last few decades. Most employment now a days does not include benefits and many companies prefer to hire part time employees or use staffing agencies as a way to save money and the result is that people will be stuck in poverty.
I have great respect and admiration for this authors and for their work and their values. Unfortunately many of the people that own the corporations that own our economy do not share the same values.

Historia
While researching the toxic and addictive properties of sugar for Fat Chance, Robert Lustig made an alarming discovery - our pursuit of happiness is being subverted by a culture of addiction and depression from which we may never recover. Dopamine is the "reward" neurotransmitter that tells our brains we want more; yet every substance or behavior that releases dopamine in the extreme leads to addiction. Serotonin is the "contentment" neurotransmitter that tells our brains we don't need any more; yet its deficiency leads to depression.

What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There's no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in digestible chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

Any additional comments?
It bothered me when he talked with so much enthusiasm about uranium and plutonium being used to make the atomic bombs that destroyed and killed thousands of people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He stated that the bombs ended the war, which may be truth but for the victims, particularly civilian victims this was nothing to be enthusiastic about.
