Historia
Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-22-12
Basically Harry Potter for grown ups, but completely lacking in spirit or engaging characters. There's really only one character in the book, the protagonist, and he's a self-interested bore. I liked the premise of the book but hated the execution.

Historia
In the wickedly bittersweet and hilarious You Must Go and Win, the Ukrainian-born musician Alina Simone traces her bizarre journey through the indie rock world, from disastrous Craigslist auditions with sketchy producers to catching fleas in a Williamsburg sublet. But Simone offers more than down-and-out tales of her time as a struggling musician: she has a rapier wit, slashing and burning her way through the absurdities of life, while offering surprising and poignant insights.

Okay
Revisado: 12-12-11
It started off pretty fun, with lots of laugh out loud moments, but then tailed off and became less interesting. It wasn't bad, just not great, and certainly not as insightful as Gaiman led us to believe.

Historia
Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

fun, but not great
Revisado: 09-06-06
A found his earlier book, American Gods, more original and compelling. This book didn't have much of a plot but was okay overall.

Historia
In this prequel to The Sword of Shannara, in which many details of the Four Lands' history are revealed, Druids, horrified by the misuse of magic, have eschewed it in favor of science. But Bremen the Druid studies magic, and becomes an outcast on its account. Bremen discovers that an invincible army of trolls are fast conquering all that lay to their south. Before them come the Nazgul-like Skull Bearers, disfigured and transformed Druids who have fallen prey to the dark arts.

Predictable
Revisado: 09-06-06
Predictable (I haven't read the main series) and overly dramatic. Never a sense of humor, and all the characters are pretty much the same.
The story might be compelling for a teen, but an adult is advised to look elsewhere.
