Historia
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) at the University of Oxford. His research on Beowulf is still considered a standard in the field. Tolkien, however, unlike most Oxford dons, stepped out of his role as professor to create popular literature. Tolkien’s best-known writings were The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, in which he created a fully realized world known as Middle-earth, vaguely identifiable as Northern Europe in a pre-history that never was.

Nice History of Tolkien
Revisado: 10-11-17
Good account of Tolkien's life, including the Inkling era. However, I wasn't impressed with the last two chapters that had nothing to do with Tolkien and were just previews of the author's biography on the current pope.

Safe. Comfortable. Happy. Words we all love. Feelings we want. Even crave. We may love God, but being that he’s invisible, words like comfortable seem to feel better faster. We are all chasing something. Our hearts were made to run hard and fast after things that move us. But as a generation, we are all beginning to stir and wake up, identifying that these words don’t satisfy for long, especially when compared to God. If God is real, and we are going to live with Him forever, shouldn’t He be everything?

A challenging book that will transform you.
Revisado: 10-08-17
I read this book on Kindle at the same time I listened to the audiobook and I found doing both to be of a benefit. Although Jenny belongs to a slightly different stream of Christianity than I do, our hearts both long to make a difference in our world. I had this book in my library for a while before I finally sat down to listen to it. I really didn't know what the book was about, to be honest, I bought it because I got a good deal on it. However, as soon as I read the first paragraph, I knew the book was a word from God for me. I'm at the point in my life once again where I am praying the anything prayer. God, I will do anything for you. Jennie writes with humour, transparency and rawness. If your world is perfectly in order, this book is for you. If your life is out of control, this book is for you. God calls all Christians to abandon ourselves to His reckless, passionate love and to follow Him in reckless obedience. This book will convince you of that truth.

An Absolute Delight and I Highly Recommend It!!
Revisado: 01-03-17
If you could sum up This Time Together in three words, what would they be?
Humorous, Insightful, Engaging.
What did you like best about this story?
Carol Burnett performs a masterful reading of her latest memoir. I felt as if I was engaged in a conversation with a good friend over a cup of coffee. I laughed outright at several of her vignettes and had a lump in my throat as I listened to more poignant pieces. Be forewarned; belly laughter will ensue! If listening with ear pods on a plane, train, or bus be prepared for odd looks! I plan on listening to this book again!
Which character – as performed by Carol Burnett – was your favorite?
Carol utilised her gift of mimicry to add just the right 'seasoning' to her story-telling. She didn't go overboard, however. For example, she was telling a story about Jimmy Stewart and only mimicked his famous drawl once - right at the punchline. Perfect timing, as usual.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!! I was half way through the book before I realised it. This is by far the best 'celebrity' reading of their own book that I have listened to. However, the chapters are short enough to keep even the most multi-tasking brain engaged.
Any additional comments?
If you grew up watching the Carol Burnett show or if your parents watched the Gary Moore show, you will enjoy this book. If you are a fan of Hollywood, you'll enjoy the book. If you want a good laugh or a good cry at times, you'll enjoy this book. Many of the stories Carol tells are stories we can all relate to; family joys and pain, overcoming a difficult childhood, how to cope with failures, workplace joys and sorrows, the loss of friends, etc.

Excellent Read
Revisado: 05-30-15
If you could sum up A.D. 30 in three words, what would they be?
Epic, Sweeping, Insightful
Who was your favorite character and why?
Judah, a Bedouin Jew, based his life on assumptions of who the Messiah would be and what He would accomplish. Those assumptions led him into danger and eventually humbled him greatly. I felt I saw him grow from a passionate man-child into a man as the book progressed.
Have you listened to any of Ellen Archer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first audio-novel but I must say Ellen Archer is a talented voice actress. She kept me hooked through some rather lengthy narratives. I look forward to hearing more of her work.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I must admit I had to discipline myself not to listen all in one sitting, However, it was fun to travel the deserts of Israel and Palestine as I went about my daily errands!
Any additional comments?
This was also my first Ted Dekker book and I will be looking forward to reading more of his works.
