Historia
The Sound and the Fury is the tragedy of the Compson family, featuring some of the most memorable characters in literature: beautiful, rebellious Caddy; the manchild Benjy; haunted, neurotic Quentin; Jason, the brutal cynic; and Dilsey, their black servant. Their lives fragmented and harrowed by history and legacy, the character’s voices and actions mesh to create what is arguably Faulkner’s masterpiece and one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.

Great narration
Revisado: 05-18-24
I’ve checked all available narrations of Hemingway's *The Sun Also Rises* on Audible. This one is by far the best.
Overall, it’s an excellent novel—one of Hemingway’s best works.

Historia
Luigi Pirandello's extraordinary final novel begins when Vitangelo Moscarda's wife remarks that Vitangelo's nose tilts to the right. This commonplace interaction spurs the novel's unemployed, wealthy narrator to examine himself, the way he perceives others and the ways that others perceive him.

Boring and tedious
Revisado: 10-28-23
It was an extremely boring and tedious read. I don't recommend it if you want to read and enjoy what you are reading. Yes, there are some philosophical existential ideas in it, such as 'I'm not what other people perceive me' and 'I'm not even what I perceive myself to be.' And the world, the way we perceive it, is just an illusion or a mental construct. But these ideas are by no means novel or unique in literature. You would probably be better off reading Franz Kafka and Hermann Hesse if you like that kind of 'philosophical' literary novels.
Plot: No spoilers, as there is no story in this book per se. A man, after a remark from his wife that his nose is tilted more towards one side than the other, goes on an absolute madman's mental journey, deconstructing himself into an infinite number of mental constructs and ending up by not associating with any of them.

War in the 21st century is fought by "soldierboys". Remote-controlled mechanical monsters, they are run by human soldiers who hard-wire their brains together to form each unit. Julian is one of these dedicated soldiers, until he inadvertently kills a young boy. Now he struggles to understand how this has changed his mind.

I can’t simply believe Forever War and Forever Peace were both written by the same person. It was a huge disappointment to read Forever Peace after Forever War.
I also can’t understand why any professional publisher would agree to even publish Forever Peace.

Historia
It has been two years since the events in Shantaram, and since Lin lost two people he had come to love: his father figure, Khaderbhai, and his soul mate, Karla, married to a handsome Indian media tycoon. Lin returns from a smuggling trip to a city that seems to have changed too much, too soon. Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life.

A good book but not as great as Book 1 (Shantaram)
Revisado: 03-15-23
Performance is still amazing. Humphrey Bower delivered again. He is perfect for this book. I don't think there is anybody in the world who can read Shantaram and The Mountain Shadow better than him.
I would say if you enjoyed the first book, you are definitely going to like this book. However, the story itself seems to be written kind of on auto-pilot: a lot of connected entertaining events but I was wondering what was the main core idea. The ending, the last few chapters... it ends rather anticlimactic. And the characters seem to be less thought of. And even some of the old characters who were amazing in the first book almost got degraded in the second one and acted like they were almost different people.
But it is said only looking back on the first book, and comparing it to the first book. Shantaram is just a masterpiece. So, to be fair The Mountain Shadow is still a good novel and it is still much better than many other books I have read in my life.
I believe you are going like it if you enjoyed the first book. But you just might not love it as much as the first book.
I think it deserves at least 4 stars out of 5. And Book 1 (Shantaram) is on its own level. It was solid 10 for me.

A masterpiece
Revisado: 03-04-23
It is one of the best modern literary novels I have ever read. The story, the pace and performance are simply flawless. Humphrey Bower’s reading of the book is superb. I enjoyed it listening to him even more than when I was reading it myself (it’s my 2nd read of the novel). I don’t think there is anybody who could read this novel better than him.
This skillfully crafted story will speak to your heart. There is so much adventure, wisdom, dedication, friendship and love in this book that it is almost impossible for anybody who reads the novel to be left unmoved by it.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

One of the best sci-fi novels I have ever read. Great story and performance. Highly recommended for those who already enjoy or would like to discover modern hard sci-fi at its best.
