Wonderful story with some deep philosophical content
Revisado: 12-14-24
The store was exciting, but the reader had a tendency to drop the last word of each sentence so that sometimes it was difficult to understand him.

"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.

Not a really interesting story
Revisado: 12-09-24
The book was mostly about characters. There was no deeper underlying message. I felt it was bland.

Revisado: 07-06-24
The reader was superb. You were able to understand each character and the emotions they felt simply through the narrators voice. The story began slowly. but the mystery prevailed throughout until the end. Quite an astounding ending, with moments of poetry.

Delightful story
Revisado: 05-22-24
This is a delightful story, well read, and very moving. I recommended highly! Parts of it are poetic, and the entire read is very touching. It is the story of how an elderly woman’s heart opens up to a sweet creature.

Historia
Joel Agee’s hallucinatory first novel begins in a house with a large garden in an unnamed Mexican town in the late 1940s, where six-and-a-half-year-old Peter reads, dreams, and plays with his friends. He is a nascent explorer, artist, philosopher, mystic, and scientist. His world is still new, not yet papered over with received knowledge. And the actual world around him is a unique one in history: a community of leftist emigrés who have found refuge in Mexico from the Nazi and fascist regimes of Europe, rubbing shoulders with Mexican labor activists and leftists such as Frida Kahlo.

A fabulous book
Revisado: 08-30-23
What a wonderful way to hear what Trevor Noah’s life was like as a young man and growing up. His description of the life in South Africa was amazing. The reader will learn a great deal about how difficult life is there for young people. This is an amazing read, not because of Trevor Noah, particularly, but because of the life in South Africa, experiencing it as a young man. That him.
