Historia
Composed toward the end of the first millennium, Beowulf is the elegiac narrative of the adventures of Beowulf, a Scandinavian hero who saves the Danes from the seemingly invincible monster Grendel and, later, from Grendel's mother. He then returns to his own country and dies in old age in a vivid fight against a dragon. The poem is about encountering the monstrous, defeating it, and then having to live on in the exhausted aftermath.

Great book. If you want to go a bit deeper into the text, I recommend the Norton Critical analogy of Beowulf which includes this text plus contextual and critical essays. Have fun!

Historia
George Hall is an unobtrusive man. A little distant, perhaps, a little cautious, not quite at ease with the emotional demands of fatherhood or of manly bonhomie. “The secret of contentment, George felt, lay in ignoring many things completely.” Some things in life can’t be ignored, however: his tempestuous daughter Katie’s deeply inappropriate boyfriend Ray, for instance, or the sudden appearance of a red circular rash on his hip.

Historia
Seabiscuit was one of the most electrifying and popular attractions in sports history and the single biggest newsmaker in the world in 1938, receiving more coverage than FDR, Hitler, or Mussolini. But his success was a surprise to the racing establishment, which had written off the crooked-legged racehorse with the sad tail.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Well, duh! The horse.
Any additional comments?
An exciting story told in all it's detail. If you liked Unbroken, as pretty much everyone did, you can expect a similar pleasure.

Historia
One of the greatest treats in all world literature, this masterpiece from Mark Twain inspired a literary revolution. The novel offers both brilliant humor and tragedy as Huck and Jim explore the moral dilemmas of slavery and freedom. Huck, the narrator, is shrewd, ingenious, and literal; he reports on everything he sees, which allows the listener to experience the hypocrisy of "sivilization".

Try Another Narrator
Revisado: 05-17-14
What would have made The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn better?
The story is excellent. Narrator Patrick Fraley just read too blame fast. It's a book full of southern characters, but they barrel along like their late for their plane or something.
What didn’t you like about Patrick Fraley’s performance?
Narrator Patrick Fraley just read too blame fast. It's a book full of southern characters, but they barrel along like their late for their plane or something.
Thought the voices were good, in general, Pap sounds lisps and whispers. He doesn't come off as menacing.
Any additional comments?
Buy the version w/ Dick Hlll as reader. It doesn't have the Raftsman's Passage, but with this Fraley recording I got so disgusted that I stopped listening during Jim and Huck's argument about why Frenchmen don't speak English, so I never heard it performed anyway.

Poor Reader
Revisado: 03-12-11
The reader pauses in the middle of his sentences and present an awkward presentation. It is irritating and doesn't seem necessary given all the fine voice talent that is available.
