Historia
Sofia Ali-Khan’s parents emigrated from Pakistan to America, believing it would be a good country. With a nerdy interest in American folk history and a devotion to the rule of law, Ali-Khan would pursue a career in social justice, serving some of America’s most vulnerable communities. By the time she had children of her own—having lived, worked, and worshipped in twelve different towns across the nation—Ali-Khan felt deeply American, maybe even a little extra American for having seen so much of the country.

Wonderful book

I loved it. Honest, well researched and intelligent. The information was personal but sweeping. It perceptively highlights so many issues central to immigration and social justice. I listened to the audio version which was performed well.

Historia
Sherry has struggled all her life to understand who she is, where she comes from, and, most importantly, why her mother slapped her cheek one summer afternoon. The incident has haunted Sherry, and it causes her to dig into her family's past. Like many family histories, it is fractured and reluctant to reveal its secrets; but Sherry remains determined. In just a few days' time, her extended family will gather for a reunion, and Sherry sets off across the country with her mother, Dumpling, to join them.

Remarkable

I loved the story and the book was read masterfully. This is one of the best stories I have read (or listened to) written from the slaves and their descendants point of view.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Excellent! Puts today’s America into historical perspective.
Revisado: 08-13-20
A well researched dive into divisive, challenging times in American history, with revealing snapshots into the thoughts of our leaders. It helps to put today’s challenges into perspective and with a call for hope and civic engagement. The audio narration is excellent. I highly recommend this audio book.
