Interesting Stories Hurt by the Narration

The stories of the accomplishments of the various Vietnam veterans were interesting and inspiring. As always, Mr. Galloway's writing was excellent. I wish I could say the same about the primary narrator. I cringed every time he mispronounced the name of a place in Vietnam. If he had received some coaching beforehand, I would have enjoyed the book so much more.

Started off great

The start of the book was great. After that it was the same thing over and over again. His research and speculation into what probably happened during the fire was good, but too much repetition.

Okay Book, Horrible Sound Effects.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Ron McLarty did a good job reading the book. The sound effects and end-of-chapter music were obnoxious and detracted from the story.

Good Neil deGrasse Tyson

I'm a big fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson. He has a way of making complex, even unfathomable concepts understandable to the common person. Although I'm a big fan of science, but not so much for math. I would have given the book 5 stars, but in one of the early chapters he was covering some pretty heavy (for me) math concepts and I was not tracking the thread of the discussion very well. Because of this I almost gave up on the book. However, I decided to give it until the end of the chapter and I'm glad I did. The rest of the book is a winner: fascinating and entertaining. Well worth the time and effort.

First Connelly Dissappointment

Cariou is Harry Bosh. He was, as usual, excellent.

I am a huge Connelly fan. I've read all of his books to-date and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. When I discovered this and a couple of other short-stories, I was eager to get my next dose. After listening to it, I feel let down. The story builds in typical Harry Bosch fashion and then it ends. The impression I was left with was this was either a concept for a future book that the author found and released or that he was past a deadline and had to get it submitted, so he ended it where he was.

Still a Connelly fan, but disappointed.
