Ready a lot of fairy fantasy? Try this one
Revisado: 09-12-24
Alright you kindle unlimited romantasy devourers, give this one a go.
Is it a long book with tons of explanations? Yes. Some of the reviews stated that this book is a *slow burn and ends abruptly* Yes. It does. Yes. It is!
This is a closed door, no spice, fully intelligent female put into extraordinary circumstances, she is not inexperienced. She is 29 at the start of this book.
How would you act if you didn't know anything about magic, and someone takes complete advantage of that from the beginning? This book is full of ''show and don't tell" so where as some folks might get bored, really it shows the reality of the situation, at least through the protagonists experience.
We get 2 pov's in this book, mostly the female main character but some of the male. It is also in 3rd person which I appreciate a lot.
The ''romance'' in this story is extremely subtle and you will *not like the mmc for a while* Read Daughter of No Worlds? Yeah think of that first night where she's outside...but worse.
This book is long, this book doesn't get enough credit through the masses I think it should.
If you read a lot and are looking for something new...but still in the fantasy setting..I highly recommend this book.

the story dragged for me, but the voice doesn't match the book ....also her tone for some serious scenes were way to upbeat.
this wasn't my favourite romance but it hasn't been the worst.
if you're considering buying this be prepared for long drawn out useless fighting.

Another "if they just communicated like grown adults that they claim to be" and a pointless danger element thrown in. Otherwise a very sweet book.

All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. Like reading a junk drawer
Revisado: 11-11-18
I haven't taken the time to write down a review in some time.
I've listened to many mysteries and police procedurals, it's one of my favourite genres.
This book was free so I'm thankful for that. This review will also have spoilers so avoid now if you don't want to read any.
This book was stuffed with so many characters that you felt not connection too, zero direction and you can tell with the very heavy topic of child abuse that it wanted you to CARE about it but the way it was all done made you roll your eyes. Nothing connected, the main issue was a lack of communication. There were characters introduced that never had any outcome. There's people's deaths that served zero purpose for the story.
All of this story could've been avoided if the main detective actually did some detective work. the author seemed more into letting us know he slept with his wife, than he actually tried to communicate with his peers.
There were so many loose ends and so many "points" to be made in this book that they get tangled around one another and it just leaves you disappointed.
The narrator couldn't decide on an accent and kept dropping out of an Irish accent. I would suggest in future to actually get someone who speaks in different tones for different characters who can keep the accent.
This book was a mess. Give it a try if you want, perhaps you'll love it as others have. But don't expect great writing here.
Perhaps the authors next book will be better and pulled together. I for one will not be waiting around to see.

A good continuation of the series
Revisado: 07-13-17
If you could sum up The Legion of Flame in three words, what would they be?
I'm not going to do that.
It's still the 3 main characters from the first book, with an addition of one other perspective which really is telling towards the story and the point of view of the 'other side'
Lizanne's story line drags a little bit because it's a lot more political than the rest, which makes sense for her, but for me it was like OK GET TO THE POINT. Luckily by the end, they did.
Clay and Hilemoore(I don't know if this is how you spell it, since I just listened to it) have grown in their own ways.
The new character is someone we know but his side of the story and his direction is very interesting.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Legion of Flame?
uhhh
SPOILER***
When they find ''her'' and figure out where the white comes from.
Which character – as performed by Steve West – was your favorite?
Hilemoore. He sounds as he should.
Now. He is getting A LOT of hate here in the reviews because of the changed narrator. Now I will say this, the previous narrator is a very good narrator, but the issue with him is that he has no character depth. All his characters sounded the exact same, there was no diversity, there wasn't a difference between any of the males, any of the dialects, and the women sounded exactly like the other women and wasn't even trying very hard.
He would be excellent as a single or maybe 2 POV book, but not in one that has multiple.
Now Steve West,
He has a different voice for everyone, a different dialect depending where that character is from, and the Corventines(sp?) all sounded similar
So for people who are hating on Steve West, think again- he is a very good narrator, so is Steven Brand..but honestly he just wasn't up to snuff for this book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to it for many hours at once but in no way could listen to it in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
Give this book a go, if you haven't listened to the first book, please do for a lot of the things will not make sense.
Don't let the old narrator or new narrator discourage you- they are both VERY GOOD narrators, and the story really is worth the switch of voices.
Can't wait for the 3rd book, I hope it comes out in a year instead of 5 years later or something

Excellent Fantasy Book by New Author
Revisado: 03-27-17
If you could sum up Circle of Reign in three words, what would they be?
Courageous, mysterious, magical
What other book might you compare Circle of Reign to and why?
I would compare it to The Dawn of Wonder, The Warded Man, Stormlight, Blood Song
It has that fantasy vibe, but it's a bit darker. It has a magic system that isn't quite fully understood until later. It has lots of battles, charm, great character development.
At first you might feel like the author is introducing a lot of new characters but keep in mind it's so you have an understanding of what/who everyone (good and evil) is.
What does Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great range in voices, brings the book to life (but with Kramer as if this is even in question)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Can't say without spoiling.
Any additional comments?
I believe Jacob Cooper is a new author ( I could be wrong because he doesn't write like one), and I will continue to buy and recommend this book series. Great start to a series, can't wait for the next one.
Wonderful fantasy book.

Historia
Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Avoid this one if you're looking for a ghost story
Revisado: 12-27-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
It seemed more concerned about what she was eating, rather than the atmosphere. I could see where she was trying to go with this but the world building wasn't there.
What could Wendy Webb have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Make it scarier and less about whos pants she's trying to get in, or at least make the romance believable. She tried to smack too many things into a book.
If you want a good gothic book I suggest the Thirteenth Tale
What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She's not one of my favourite narrators but I don't pass over a book because she's narrating it.
Any additional comments?
It was boring.
It wasn't scary.
It wasn't ominous.
The relationships between people didn't make sense and the atmosphere wasn't what I was looking for.
I don't like discouraging people from reading (or listening) so if you're looking for a light read, sure. But I would skim this one.

Great idea with video game delivery
Revisado: 11-08-16
Would you try another book from David A. Wells and/or Derek Perkins?
I will try another book narrated by Derek Perkins, but I will not purchase anymore of David A. Wells books.
Would you ever listen to anything by David A. Wells again?
No.
I tried listening to his Thinblade and couldn't find it interesting enough.
What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?
His range of voices, his pace of speaking.
Do you think The Dragon's Codex needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It should, and will.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the first book although I felt it was cut off. This book is unbelievable and eye rolling, and by unbelievable I'm not talking in the magic and dragons sense. I'm talking about how the main character can go from bumbling teenager to super hero in what feels like a month. The other characters have no development and they're really dispensable..other than like..maybe 2. MAYBE.
It reads like a video game. The hero gets all the cool gizmos and has to go to dungeon B at the point in time and get helpful object. There is not a lot of explaining and the last part of the book was just silly.
It's a good YA book, and I don't mind those sometimes...but this was just too much. I feel like the author has very good ideas but lacks on the delivery. He should really extend his books, build his characters and spend a little more time making your main characters (in his other series too) not so *perfect*. Make it a little more human.
Anyhow, it's a fun enough book, but don't expect anything great.
