Too drawn out
Revisado: 03-29-23
This is the longest I've ever listened to a book, even though it's shorter than most of them. With all of the date changes and flashbacks, I had to keep going back so I could understand the timeline. Having the main character smart and naive during the story was a bit frustrating. I found myself questioning her actions. The talk of bile & vomit was a bit much, and also the nail biting.
The minor characters aren't really developed, so the ending was a little confusing. I suggest paying attention to their names so you know who is mentioned at the end. I definitely felt compelled to finish, but some of the chapters could've been combined instead of separated by chapters from other times in the story. I don't want to give anything away, but if you listen, you will understand what I mean.
The narrator was very good. I like how she changes the voice for each character...but the mother's voice was too screechy. I cringed whenever I heard it.

Darkness Prevails is a collection of 15 terrifying tales by author Cliff R. Barlow. From twisted yarns about the demons of hell to gut-wrenching stories about the unrelenting demons within, this collection pulls no punches. You have been warned. This is not for the faint of heart.

Not For Me
Revisado: 03-09-23
I like horror stories. but this is more like demonic stories. Killing a baby after slitting the mother's throat...become Satan's bride...trying to summon evil. Nope. I made it part way into chapter 2, and I'm done. There's too much evil today to listen to a story about it. It's happening in real life.
This story actually turned my stomach. I won't be listening to anything else by this author.
The narrator was ok, but the male voice didn't sound male. I seriously don't know how or why she agreed to read this story.

Historia
Against the backdrop of worldwide, unexplainable natural disasters, Dr. Virginia Marilyn Edwards (Emmy Award-winner Kerry Washington) seeks out Agent Scott Thomas (Emmy Award-winner Laurence Fishburne) at a secretive government headquarters. Virginia claims these events are signs, and unless Agent Thomas helps her, she believes things will only get worse. Her desperation is dialed up higher with a shocking proclamation as she stands before him pregnant, weak, and weary: “Agent Thomas,” she says, “I believe I am Mary.”

Wokeness ruins it
Revisado: 01-27-23
I listened to the entire story despite the reviews. It was entertaining, even though the author doesn't know much about Christianity, especially the Rapture and the difference between Psalm 23 and the Lord's Prayer.
I didn't even realize that the main character was Black until she mentioned it in one of the episodes. Her race didn't make a difference to me. It was just a story about people; just regular people, but unfortunately there had to be the typical "White man (people) bad" message added in. What a shame. Stop putting up walls between races! Stop trying to make race relations worse!
The performances were great, especially Laurence Fishburn. His talent and experience really shines through, even though I kept picturing Morpheus.

Boring
Revisado: 01-17-23
Boring and slow. I'm so sick of the Republican/Conservative bashing in audiobooks!! Just write a good story and leave politics out of it!
I've listened to several Bentley Little stories before and vowed to never listen again, but I didn't even notice the name of the author this time. When he mentioned getting a hard-on during a haircut, it sounded familiar. Then the political bashing started.....again, just like in all of his stories that I've heard. After reading other reviews about the extreme vulgarity, I'm glad I quit when I did. Those were very uncomfortable parts of his other stories and not necessary at all.
Out of every story I've listened to, Bentley Little is definitely my.....I can't even say "least favorite" author. Most hated works, I guess.
Stranger in the Woods by Anni Taylor is much better than anything by Bentley Little.

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

Historia
Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Why the sex and politics?
Revisado: 09-23-22
After reading The Haunted, I decided to try another book by Bentley Little, hoping that the political jabs and graphic sexual content wouldn't be included in The Handyman. I was very disappointed and disgusted, especially with a gross "story" told about Ronald Reagan. Little is obviously a preaching liberal, but that went too far. The descriptive sex and politics have no bearing on his stories, so I don't understand why he feels the need to include them. I won't be ready any more of his work.
The narrator did a great job.
