We as a society are self-censoring at record rates. Say the wrong thing at the wrong moment to the wrong person and the consequences can be dire. Think that everyone should be treated equally regardless of race? You're a racist who needs to be kicked out of the online forum that you started. Believe there are biological differences between men and women? You're a sexist who should be fired with cause. Argue that people should be able to speak freely within the bounds of the law?

Pretty good

Good subject, but the incessant quote, end quotes were quite distracting. Could have made a drinking game out of it.

Wow! Insightful, yet sad at the same time. Puts an explanation point on the current public discourse happening now.

Historia
Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. In The New Puritans, Andrew Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these New Puritans came from and what they hope to achieve.

One of the best books I’ve come across. Doyle’s prose is easy to listen to and very entertaining for such an important topic.

Historia
Political violence rips apart several towns in southwest Texas. A far-right militia plots to kidnap the governor of Michigan and try her for treason. An armed mob of Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists storms the U.S. Capitol. Are these isolated incidents? Or is this the start of something bigger? Barbara F. Walter has spent her career studying civil conflict in places like Iraq, Ukraine, and Sri Lanka, but now she has become increasingly worried about her own country.

Bummer
Revisado: 03-03-22
As a center-left college history grad, I was hoping for a well researched, unbiased look at the causes and consequences of civil wars. The first few chapters were promising, then things took a turn into something resembling a far left fever dream. The narrator kept it interesting, but otherwise very disappointing.
