Can’t finish. It’s too meh.
Revisado: 08-11-22
Every character has a hamfisted and foreshadowing nickname which gets overwhelming when the reader seemingly says “Cancer” every 30 seconds as that’s the chain smoking main characters name. It’s also awkward jumping back and forth from first to third person.

Historia
A woman boards a plane in the African country of Burkina Faso having just completed a targeted assassination for the state of Israel. Two minutes later, her plane is blown out of the sky. Over 6,000 miles away, former Navy SEAL James Reece watches the names and pictures of the victims on cable news. One face triggers a distant memory of a Mossad operative attached to the CIA years earlier in Iraq—a woman with ties to the intelligence services of two nations…a woman Reece thought he would never see again.

Shilling for Fox News and trying to be a techno-thriller
Revisado: 06-12-22
This book would otherwise fit squarely in the Carr lineage of it weren’t for his sudden appreciation for Fox News and the addition of an AI supercomputer borrowed from the Devs TV show.
For some totally unclear reason, Carr uses a totally unnecessary science fiction trope with a technical description he’s unqualified to attempt in order to move his storyline forward.
The preface, written a year and a month after the January 6th insurrection makes me honestly wonder which side the author would have been on had he been there.
Finally, an obscenely one-sided look at the Israeli Palestinian conflict with a gross misrepresentation of the power dynamics showed the remainder of his political bend.
Like Reece, it looks like Carr’s best performance is behind him.

First person voice makes you wish you were a target
Revisado: 07-15-20
Whoever told Mark Greaney to write in the first person is an idiot. This is the worst of the dozen or so Grey Man books I’ve listened to by a long shot. If you intend to continue this practice, please give us a warning in the description that says something like “you will hate this.”

“The best f**king book I’ve ever read.”
Revisado: 02-26-20
This book was described to me by someone I trust as: “The best f**king book I’ve ever read.” It has been described to him by two people (whose opinion he valued) as: “The best f**king book I’ve ever read.”
I can’t attest to the accuracy of those three reviews. What I can say is that this is the best f**king book I’ve ever read.

Worst performance and editing I've ever heard
Revisado: 09-25-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narrator could have bothered to have any internal consistency in pronunciation, or researched the topic even a little bit. The editor could have eliminated repeated lines or chapterized the additional audio commentary so we could skip through it. The author could have simply let his chapters speak for themselves rather than introducing each one, which only served to duplicate the exact same information.
Has The Red Circle: My Life in the Navy SEAL Sniper Corps and How I Trained America's Deadliest Marksmen turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but I'll never listen to another book by this author or narrator. This is the worst audio book I've ever listened to (and I actually liked the story).
Would you be willing to try another one of Jon Bailey’s performances?
Not a damned chance.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The original book had a good story, before the author screwed it up with his ego notes.
Any additional comments?
Actually, in retrospect the actual book also feels like a big "I told you so" to everyone the author ever disagreed with.

Life lessons dumbed down and overgeneralized for the lowest common denominator
Revisado: 06-02-16
This entire book is filled with massive over generalizations about winners and losers, the mediocre and the stars. Examples given seem fake and a force fit.
If you don't know how to treat people, or have confidence in yourself, this book is for you! If you're looking for actual ideas, or innovative approaches to anything, don't waste your time.
And no matter what you do, keep the volume turned down. The Long silences will lure you into turning up the volume. Then, the atrocious sound effects and music will make you want to rip your ears off and step on them.

Listen to every URL you never dreamed of
Revisado: 06-29-15
Overall, I really, really like this audiobook with one GLARING exception: it lists hundreds of URL resources in a way that is almost useless. It would have been a great companion document or something that we could skip over chapter by chapter without missing ACTUAL narrative content, but jamming it in as if you don't know that audio and written materials are fundamentally different is a mistake in my opinion. I wonder if TFerriss would have listened to this past the halfway mark when it became really monotonous.
