Historia
It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music", a Mafia hit. But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal.

Very emotional Bosch
Revisado: 05-27-24
Didn’t seem to me that Bosch was smart this book. He was really emotional and rude the whole book until the end.

Historia
Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she’s afraid she cannot stop.

Really cool book
Revisado: 05-11-24
I disliked it being in first person because of Katniss’ angst and obliviousness. Other than that I read the whole thing in two days.

Historia
Robert A. Caro's life of Lyndon Johnson continues - one of the richest, most intensive, and most revealing examinations ever undertaken of an American President. The Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer/historian carries Johnson through his service in World War II and the foundation of his long-concealed fortune and the facts behind the myths he created about it. But the explosive heart of the book is Caro's revelation of the true story of the fiercely contested 1948 senatorial election.

Interesting but at times long & repetitive.
Revisado: 12-20-23
I liked this book; it was a short read following Caro’s engaging first book. I wish there was not so much recapping of that first book in this one. There are wonderful portraits herein but this book feels like it could’ve been 12 hours. The senate race takes up nearly half the book and I wonder if by dropping some of the repeated lines we could’ve had a more focused work that still shined its light on those portraits. Excited to read Master of the Senate!

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

I never thought I’d see such a brilliant picture of how power works on a person or how one person can shape a city and state. Worth every minute with great narration.

Historia
God gave us His Word so that we may know Him and live by His truth. So, what should we do when we’re reading the Bible and a difficult passage stops us in our tracks? Sometimes the solution is right there on the page—if we know where to look—while other passages gain clarity in light of the rest of the Bible or its historical background. With the help of an experienced guide, we can overcome the obstacles to our progress and know God’s Word more deeply. In Hard Sayings, Dr. R.C. Sproul applies his wisdom as a theologian and Bible teacher to some of the most challenging verses in Scripture.

Historia
Solitary confinement, mental and physical torture, extreme hunger and bitter cold—these were the daily realities for Pastor Richard Wurmbrand during his combined 14 years of imprisonment in Communist Romania. Richard's crime, like that of thousands of others, was his fervent faith in Jesus Christ and his outspoken witness to the grace and love of God. In Tortured for Christ, Richard shares the inspiring story of his faithful discipleship amid Communist oppression and his powerful witness of Christ's love and forgiveness even before his persecutors.

I found this a very comforting book regarding the beauty and strength/power of God even in the darkest places. I was especially moved by the Christians in this book saying to communists: your greatest need is Christ.

Christians know what Jesus Christ has done — but who is he? What is his deepest heart for his people, weary and faltering on their journey toward heaven? Jesus said he is "gentle and lowly in heart." This audiobook reflects on these words, opening up a neglected yet central truth about who he is for sinners and sufferers today.

Historia
Among the autobiographies of great military figures, Ulysses S. Grant’s is certainly one of the finest, and it is arguably the most notable literary achievement of any American president: a lucid, compelling, and brutally honest chronicle of triumph and failure. From his frontier boyhood, to his heroics in battle, to the grinding poverty from which the Civil War ironically rescued him, these memoirs are a mesmerizing, deeply moving account of a brilliant man told with great courage.

Wonderful Man
Revisado: 05-12-23
I loved the narrator and the character of Grant shone forth in his performance as well as in Grant’s own writing. His earnestness and willingness to do his duty and to praise others excellently showcased his incredible leadership. This is a story of a man who answered the call to action and written by a soldier: particularly the ending chapters. It is a work brimming with charity and the most welcome surprise was the detail on his childhood and Mexican war. Unfortunately the book roughly concludes at Appomattox, but it still a terrific read.

Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

Worth a few reads!
Revisado: 02-05-23
This is the only audiobook I’ve read 4 times. The narrator brings the book to life and the writing is superb. This book is almost poetry so having a narrator helps smooth the text along which is fitting for this adventure/exploratory story. It stays interesting even in the parts straying from the main plot and again the narrator brings the book to life through Ishmael and Ahab, and the rest.

Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

I thought it was beautiful
Revisado: 11-09-21
Never, have I read such a dark, depressed book; one that at every turn seems to drag its reader backwards from hope, and that ceases to move when one wants it to plunge ahead. I didn’t know what to make of the characters, all of them, frighteningly human. But that is the real strength of the book, because when doubt is piled on doubt, the reader is left with people who have only the choice to believe. And, with every point of the book swinging on that decision, the reader must make the choice for themself.
