Historia
Master of the Senate, told with an abundance of rich detail that could only have come from Caro’s peerless research, is both a galvanizing portrait of the man himself—the titan of Capital Hill, volcanic, mesmerizing—and a definitive and revelatory study of the workings and personal and legislative power.

Superb Biography by Excellent Author
Revisado: 09-22-12
If you could sum up Master of the Senate in three words, what would they be?
Brilliant. Meticulous. Deep.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Master of the Senate?
The whole thing was a triumph.
Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?
I guess Lyndon Johnson, but the cast of characters around him made the book truly great.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was, happily, too long for that. But every time I quit listening to it, I looked forward to returning to it. I listen to these books driving back and forth to and from work.
Any additional comments?
Robert Caro is so dedicated to his work. Any book by him is a treasure.

Historia
The incredible true story of nine Hellcat submarines assigned to penetrate the dense minefields protecting the sea of Japan. In 1945-with no knowledge of the development of the atomic bomb- American submarine commanders, desperate to avoid an invasion of the home islands, believed that if the Japanese merchant fleet was sunk, the enemy would be forced to surrender.

Not What I Was Lead to Expect
Revisado: 09-22-12
What would have made Hellcats better?
If it had really been the story of a submarine mission, instead of containing a lot of useless information and only devoting about 20% of its time to the mission, which didn't convey any drama or excitement at all.
Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Sasgen again?
No
How could the performance have been better?
The performer had nothing much to work with. Not even Walter Cronkite could have made this less dis-interesting.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes. The part about how the dead commander's wife tried to get to the bottom of why her husband had been sent on this unnecessary mission was heart rending. Plus, the exposure of the overall commander's revenge motive for costing these men their lives was worthwhile. But, that only made up about 15% of the book. Most of it was useless and unrelated to what thr preview lead me to expect.
Any additional comments?
I love WWII submarine stories. I wish Audible had offered a good one, instead of this disappointing mess.

Historia
When Truman asked Stalin in 1945 whether Hitler was dead, Stalin replied bluntly, "No." As late as 1952, Eisenhower declared: "We have been unable to unearth one bit of tangible evidence of Hitler's death." What really happened? Simon Dunstan and Gerrard Williams have compiled extensive evidence - some recently declassified - that Hitler actually fled Berlin and took refuge in a remote Nazi enclave in Argentina.

Don't Buy This Book
Revisado: 09-22-12
Would you try another book from Simon Dunstan and Gerrard Williams and/or Don Hagen?
Never
Has Grey Wolf turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Don Hagen?
The narrator wasn't the problem.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Grey Wolf?
Every word
Any additional comments?
This was a con artist of a book. It gave all kinds of useless information totally unrelated to its promised subject. It was boring and terrible. It was insulting to any listener. For example, the "authors" described President Harry Truman as a former Senator from Arkansas, when eveybody with the vaguest knowledge of American history knows that Truman was a former Senator from Missouri. The book was a total, unmitigated disgrace, not worthy of being offered by Audible to its customers.
