Historia
In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes
Any additional comments?
Just about anything John Scalzi has written and I have listened to has been totally worth the time and money. The stories keep you interested. The Old Mans War series I repeatedly listen to, Agent to the stars is good, Redshirts was awesome (I'm a big Trek fan) and Android's Dream is no different. Good story, Wil Wheaton does a great read.
I Like a story and read that make you just loose track of everything but the images in your head.
The Only thing I can complain about is the "he said", they said, she said.... constantly. cut that back and the readings would better. (That goes for all the Scalzi books I have listened to though)

Historia
It was a miracle of science that permitted human beings to live, if not forever then for a long, long time. Some people, anyway. The rich, the powerful, they lived their lives at the rate of one year every 10. Some created two societies: that of people who lived out their normal span and died, and those who slept away the decades, skipping over the intervening years and events. It allowed great plans to be put into motion. It allowed interstellar empires to be built.

This book just wasn't worth the time
Revisado: 01-04-14
Any additional comments?
I liked Enders Game and I liked the Enders Shadow Series. But Speaker For the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind were just no worth the time. These books are just to uninteresting to listen to more than once and I am having a hard time justifying the first listen. Especially at the cost of all three of them.

The human race is at War with the "Buggers," an insect-like alien race. As Earth prepares to defend itself from total destruction at the hands of an inscrutable enemy, all focus is on the development of military geniuses who can fight such a war, and win. The long distances of interstellar space have given hope to the defenders of Earth--they have time to train these future commanders up from childhood, forging them into an irresistible force in the high orbital facility called the Battle School.

Good book, But listen to Enders Game first. (Don't bother with the rest of the Enders game books but the Enders Shadow books are pretty good)I like the fulfilling aspect of the story and how it fills in the gaps of Enders Game.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Boring slow and not worth the time
Revisado: 01-04-14
What would have made Hyperion better?
A different writer
What was most disappointing about Dan Simmons’s story?
Lack of umph... I still have a hard time remembering anything about any of the characters, and the ending just falls on its face.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Narration was good, story was lacking
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
very disappointed in the entire series
Any additional comments?
I bought all four books in this series, I made it thru about 70 hours of it and just couldn't go on to find out the conclusion of the last book. I like sci fi and thought it would be good. I was wrong. Some of the concepts in the story were interesting, but not interesting enough to keep my attention throughout the full series. Maybe it gets better at the end and it all comes together with some kind of clarity and will make you walk away saying, "This book has changed my entire perspective of universe!"
Wouldn't know.
Bought them 4 years ago and just can't bring myself to listen to them. (and that's saying something being the fact I have listened to a reading of the FAA pilots handbook just because I was bored driving down the highway).
I just look at it as a bad purchase (all four) when I was trying to find something interesting and read rave reviews about it. Most of my audible books I have listened to at least 4 times each, (I have a lot of time available when driving) and it's sad when I can't even finish a series of books just once.
I'm not some professional book critic and don't expect to read this at the New York Times, and don't take my word for it. I didn't like it and it's 70+ hours of my life I won't get back.

Any additional comments?
I read this book in High school, and a couple times after that. I've Listened to it about 5 times since I bought it. There's just something about it I love. Hardwired was a decent read but Voice of the Whirlwind is a far better book, and I'm sure I will listen to it again sometime soon.
