Historia
In this laugh-and-cry-out-loud, memoir-esque exploration of selfhood, Zach Zimmerman dives into the pros and cons of retiring a Bible-Belt-dwelling, meat-eating, God-fearing identity in exchange for a new lease on life—one of vegetarianism, atheism, queerness, and humor. Whether learning to absolve instilled religious guilt or reminiscing over Tinder dates gone wrong, this book is a candid and hysterical look at one person's journey toward making peace with the past and seeking hope in the future.

my new favorite
Revisado: 10-11-23
Much in the same vein as David Sedaris, Zach's essays run the gamut between lists and heartache...but mostly stopping at the intersection of belly laugh and guffaw. I loved listening to the narration and honestly will be purchasing a hard copy of this to read again.

Historia
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Too Little and Not Enough
Revisado: 07-18-20
I will preface my review with this: I do not like Donald Trump. I feel like he is not a good President. So I went into this book thinking there would be some skeletons being brought to light or some big bombshells revealed. Neither of those things occurred.
The best part of listening to this book was Mary Trump's narration. Her voice is perfectly modulated and very nice to listen to.
Donald Trump, and his four siblings, were born into a cold family where money ruled. Fred Trump was a crude businessman and a cruel man who wanted to groom his oldest son, Fred Jr or Freddie, to take over the family business. Unfortunately for Freddie, and later Freddie's two children, he did not succeed at making his father happy. He decided that the family business wasn't for him and went out on his own to become a commercial pilot. Although he was very successful, he still didn't receive his father's approval, which is what he apparently always wanted/needed to be happy. Freddie eventually went back to the Trump business.
Without giving away the whole sordid tale, I will say that this book is less about Donald Trump and more like a biography of Freddie Trump. The author, his daughter, paints a glaringly biased picture where all the Trump family belittled and destroyed Freddie. If the author would have put all her firsthand knowledge about Donald Trump into a manuscript, it wouldn't have been much more than a pamphlet. She assumes to know what Donald is thinking, feeling, and doing with no firsthand knowledge, and comes across as a bitter niece with an ax to grind...namely Fred Trump Sr.'s will.
Although I enjoyed my trip down the Trump memory lane, I felt that this book was nothing like it was portrayed. The glimpses into Donald Trump's life (from firsthand accounts) only prove what we already know: he's sexist, misogynistic, and frankly not a nice guy.
**UPDATE** After listening to this book and pretty much writing it off as a one-sided portrayal, I've noticed that all of Mary Trump's words come back to me any time DT says or does something beyond comprehension. So I guess the book served its purpose after all.
