All Heart
Revisado: 04-30-25
This book is an intimate glimpse into the startlingly tender inner landscape of an artist whose songs are familiar to practically everyone but whose gentleness and grace were kept hidden for far too long. It’s the story of every latch key kid in America on blast. Be prepared to experience the full range of human emotion and to enjoy it whether you like it or not.

Historia
The book Before War will change how its listeners look at the world by exposing the female roots of Western civilization. It draws on the evidence from anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, primatology, and the shocking new genetics data, to tell the story of Western civilization. For listeners of Sapiens and The Dawn of Everything, this is about another way that our European ancestors lived, without violence, sexual shame, or social inequality. Its the story of a story that was buried and re-discovered again and again, and is once again being told, thanks to the new science of genetics.

I find this history inspiring. The author has devoted her heart and soul to this work and it shows. There’s a lot here to unpack. The writing and narration make it easy to follow and exciting.

Historia
When I navigate the currents of the soul, I find myself within my ancestral pool. I find myself swimming in their grief, and the longing during the great event and initiation called the Middle Passage. I find myself in their collective soul journey from a place of homeland to a dream of the Promised Land. This audiobook is a telling of the soul-striving of people of African heritage into the American experience of creating a community - a community created for the possibilities of new covenants within the larger collective sphere of human life.

Startling lucidity within fluid storytelling
Revisado: 03-16-24
I guest became aware of Orland Bishop due to the timbre of his voice which is a gateway to awakening in and of itself. I hope he will one day record himself narrating this book. For now it is useful to listen to this clearly enunciated recording (Julie Sears, what were you thinking?!) while I follow along with a print copy. There is so much here, I look forward to reading it again and again and learning something new each time.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Red mist on acid
Revisado: 01-12-23
I confess, I only pre-ordered this book because I see the author as one of the four horsemen heralding the end of an old world and the birth of a new one. I believe that when monarchy is abolished the world will be a better place. I binge listened, filling my celebrity gossip quota for the rest of the year. Now I feel queasy and slightly hungover.
Prince Harry is unabashedly pro-war and pro-monarchy. It’s so bitchy I was reminded who his his godfather is. And he’s weirdly relatable. He is two-thirds of the way through his meandering alcohol-and-weed-fueled narrative before he spills the beans about the shrooms. About having been on mushrooms this whole entire time. Like, not just sometimes, but pretty much all the time, since puberty. Shrooms, aya, psilocybin, whatever. He talks to the animals. It became clear that the reason he’s so sure his family won’t read the book is that they think he’s ass-out crazy and listening to another one of his stories is their idea of hell. I laughed for over a minute straight. I could not stop. That alone was worth the one audible credit. But the fact that he never gets sober and instead goes in to be a staunch advocate for a Lebowski level regimen of spliffs and initiatic plant allies… priceless.
Props to his royal ghost writer and acting coach. To his credit the Prince is blessed with the kind of perfect comic timing which can’t be faked. I come away with an odd fondness and respect for the man, although we do not share values. I found this listen thoroughly engaging.

Historia
A paradigm-shifting book in the vein of Sapiens that brings a crucial Indigenous perspective to historical and cultural issues of history, education, money, power, and sustainability - and offers a new template for living. As an indigenous person, Tyson Yunkaporta looks at global systems from a unique perspective, one tied to the natural and spiritual world. In considering how contemporary life diverges from the pattern of creation, he raises important questions. How does this affect us? How can we do things differently?

If you’re at all interested in surviving the apocalypse, you’re going to need several manuals for post-civilization living. This one goes at the top of the list. A copy of this book belongs in every bunker, cave, and time capsule, and aboard every satellite.
