Historia
Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

Enjoyable Historical Fiction
Revisado: 03-16-25
I enjoyed the full cast performance of By Any Other Name. The actors did an impeccable job bringing the characters to life. The story was enjoyable with many progressive themes and ideas throughout. For some this will be a breath of fresh air, for others unnecessary. It is very characteristic of the author, and true to who she is as a writer.

Excellent!
Revisado: 08-16-22
The Diamond Eye is an excellent piece of historical fiction about a female sniper from the Sovit Union during WWII. The Russian perspective of WWII is not one I have read much about, and I really enjoyed the unique perspective. I thought the author's note at the end that details which parts of the book were factual and which were fictionalized was a great companion for readers wanting to know more about Lady Death.
Overall, an excellent listen.

Wonderful
Revisado: 08-12-22
Kristin Hannah has an excellent way of bringing places and characters to life. The Great Alone does just that with Alaska, Lenny, Cora, and Matthew. Hannah really brings to life the struggles of living in Alaska, especially as people that are unprepared.
I really enjoyed the book, but I did think the beginning drug on for quite a while. There was a lot of repetition to trudge through before "getting to the good part" about 3/4 of the way through.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Excellent, One of my favorite listens this year!
Revisado: 08-10-22
Excellent story about a fictional heroine during World War II in France.
I really enjoyed getting the story from the perspective of both sisters about an extremely challenging time in their lives. One sister who behaved in a very rash manner, while the other was much more reserved and kept to the status quo. Hannah did an excellent job researching what life was like for the French during the difficult years of occupation, and she was really able to bring that to life in her story.
Overall, one of my favorite books of the year.

Fun take on some Art History
Revisado: 07-21-22
The Da Vinci Code is where my enjoyment of Dan Brown and Robert Langdon began. Probably like most, I found my way to the book because I enjoyed the movie. If you started with the movie, I can say the book doesn't disappoint and the movie stayed fairly true to the book.
This was my second read through after many years and I enjoyed the book just as much this time through. I really enjoy all of the art history and symbology that is involved in the story.

Least favorite Robert Langdon Book
Revisado: 07-21-22
Origin is another typical Dan Brown book with all the action, intrigue, and suspense woven throughout the story. However, Origin doesn't delve quite as much into the historical iconography as the previous four Robert Langdon books. I would say this installment is my least favorite because it deals more with technology and the future than in art history and iconography. Origin still gets 4 stars from me, but the topics weren't my favorite.

Everything you can expect from Dan Brown
Revisado: 07-21-22
The Lost Symbol was a fun look into America's history and art history in true Dan Brown style. All the action and suspense that a Dan Brown reader has become accustomed to is there, and The Lost Symbol works fine as a stand-alone book as well.
Founding Father conspiracy theories are some of my favorites, so this book really hit the spot for me.

Another Great Dan Brown Book!
Revisado: 07-21-22
I'm a fan of the Robert Langdon books and enjoyed this one just as much as the first three. One of my favorite aspects of the Langdon books is the history and art that is intertwined throughout. This book took us back to Italy, but to all new locations.
Inferno, as with all the books is the Langdon series, is a fine stand-alone book. This is a fun look at Dante, with all the mystery and suspense that is expected in a Dan Brown book.

Intriguing Puzzle
Revisado: 07-07-22
I started Angles and Deamons many years ago, right before the movie came out, but got busy and didn't finish it. The book was an intriguing puzzle and a fun listen. I wasn't a huge fan of Poe's narration. There just seemed to be something missing there for me, but it didn't detract from the story too much.
If you're a fan of puzzle/riddle books, this is a pretty good one.

The Hawthorne Legacy continued on just as strong as the first. This has become one of my top book series. I found the clues enjoyable to follow along, and the mystery was solvable without being too predictable.
