Historia
When archivist Sol meets Elsie, the larger-than-life widow of a moderately famous television writer who's come to donate her wife's papers, there's an instant spark. But Sol has a secret: He suffers from an illness called vampirism, and hides from the sun by living in his basement office. On their way to falling in love, the two traverse grief, delve into the internet fandom they once unknowingly shared, and navigate the realities of transphobia and the stigmas of carrying the "vampire disease".

One of the best books I’ve ever read
Revisado: 08-09-22
it helped me see and understand myself and feel seen. And I enjoyed it! Anyone wondering about the complexities of gender and our relationship to our place in the world will find something here. Even when it felt scary to recognize myself in their characters I loved spending time with them. The story and narration are a pleasure to hear. The way it combines multiple forms of written media is so innovative and fun.

Innovative, charming and powerful
Revisado: 06-20-22
I’ve never heard anything quite like it before! The book combines poetry, critical theory essays and short fiction all rooted in the world of three indigenous young women fighting to keep their place on their land as the forces of colonialism/gentrification try to push them out.
I have no particular connection or knowledge of NZ and I loved learning more about it from this book through Coco’s particular lens and her wonderfully crafted characters.
The book’s messages are powerful but it’s never preachy, always eye opening and literary and entertaining.
And extremely relatable.

Historia
Matt hasn't eaten in days. His stomach stabs and twists inside, pleading for a meal, but Matt won't give in. The hunger clears his mind, keeps him sharp - and he needs to be as sharp as possible if he's going to find out just how Tariq and his band of high school bullies drove his sister, Maya, away. Matt's hardworking mom keeps the kitchen crammed with food, but Matt can resist the siren call of casseroles and cookies because he has discovered something: the less he eats the more he seems to have...powers.

Transformative book!
Revisado: 01-01-20
I came at this from a speculative fiction perspective more than as YA and I was richly rewarded by a story that offered all this and more.
Beautifully written with powerful observations about how humans work and how the world works. Excellent characters you don’t see every day. I really love this book!
The actor does an amazing job being the voice of the protagonist here— perfectly cast.
