Historia
Stargirl. From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of “Stargirl, Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’s heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. At first. Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different, and Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal.

Really enjoyed it!
Revisado: 04-20-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
My child was assigned this book in school, so I decided to listen to it so we could discuss it as a family. I ended up really enjoying it!
What did you like best about this story?
Just a fun, thought provoking book.
Have you listened to any of John Ritter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any other John Ritter narations, but I thought he did a really great job with this book - got the expressions of 11th graders down great!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to it over the course of about a week.
Any additional comments?
The book raises a lot of interesting issues - e.g., is Stargirl admirable, or would you criticize some of the things she did. Should she be emulated or not? Why did people shun her at school? Etc.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

I loved every minute of this book - learned a ton!
Revisado: 04-20-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Alexander Hamilton to be better than the print version?
Using the audio book in my car kept me going through this book whereas I might have drifted off into other things reading the book given the heft of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
This was a fascinating biography and a fascinating insights into the revolutionary and post-revolutionary period that I now realize I knew little about. The personal story was really interesting, as were the political issues of the day that Hamilton grappled with.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
I thought Scott Brick did a fine job. I know some others feel he had a bit of a monotone but I really liked his delivery - it was crisp, clear and consistent through out - really good!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
NO WAY! This is a heavy book. I didn't listen to it all the time - sometimes needed lighter fare on my drive home - e.g., if I was tired after a long day.
Any additional comments?
This is a truly incredible book - a masterpiece! I am surprised at the amount of original primary material referenced in the book - letters, diaries and the like that give real insight into the actions and motivations of the people. I was listening to the Hamilton musical album at the same time, which made it really enjoyable - to see how much of the book was referenced in the musical!

Using his experience as a speechwriter, Barton Swaim tells the story of a band of believers who attach themselves to this sort of ambitious narcissist.

Gives you an inside view to state government
Revisado: 01-28-17
Any additional comments?
This is a very interesting memoir about what it is like to be inside state government. Of course, the salacious details about Mark Sanford are interesting, but I found that even without that angle I really enjoyed what this writer had to say. The narrator does a fabulous job imitating the voices of various state legislators/blow hards.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

In the mid-70s, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981 he quit forever. Born Standing Up is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and why I walked away".
