Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

The narrator makes this so much fun. It’s like Sam Elliot playing Forest Gump as a space gangster cowboy detective. It doesn’t get better than that. And there’s 2 more stories. Woohoo

It was nice to get a full fleshed out world from Mayberry. I enjoyed this and it took a while to finish because I took a break for a bit but I just did. So now I can finally start Son of Poison Rose that I’ve been staring at in my library since it was released. Thank you for giving us something besides zombies and vampires. Not that you aren’t good with them but it’s a very fun change of pace from one of my top authors..

Wow. I could not stop listening to this. I’ve read and listened to a lot of King in my life but I’ll say this was one of my favorites and can’t wait to start the next book. King wins 21st century literature with one line. “His ‘butt’ is mine, and I mean to have it…” ~ Bill Hodges

A crime wave has hit town. The target is a highly sought-after brand of streetwear called Hybird X, clothing that costs a fortune and resells for unbelievable prices. Houses are burgled, kids mugged on the streets...and finally a young man dies, all for the sake of his shoes. Then another boy’s body is found in a pile of rubbish. Meanwhile illegal steroids are flooding the streets. And there are dark movements on the marshes.

Good mysteries to pass the time.
Revisado: 03-29-23
This is my fourth book in this series. I just figured out there was a reading order so I’m a little out of wack but they mostly stand on their own and are just as entertaining. Im invested in the characters and the narrator does a great job with the performance. One con to this one and there is still an hour left so I may be jumping the gun (I don’t see them adding a new character with an hour left) but where is Orac? She’s one of my favorite characters and this story really seems like something up her alley. Then again Orac would have had this solved in chapter 3 so wouldn’t have been much book left. Still fun.

If you’ve heard one true crime you’ve heard them all. The difference is in the delivery. I’m glad I’m finding more of my favorite YouTube channels in podcast form. I listen to them all day and it’s nice to not have the video I’m not watching waste my battery.

By far my favorite true crime guy.. my go to.. Mike rocks. He has the right mix of humor and insight that keeps you wanting more. I’ll always be here for that chapter. I spend 80% of my day on audible and now I don’t have to hop on that video site *coughs you tube* to get my dose of that chapter. It’s now my one stop shop. One favor tho buddy. Please find a way to work the number 333,333 in a story. I beg of you. Nothing would make me happier. Except maybe a new episode. Or a life insurance dance, but I digress, Love you Mike!

Historia
Two years ago, Dr. Gina Brady broke Thomas Prescott’s heart, but now her panic-stricken satellite phone call starts it beating again with a fury. Thugs kidnapped the good doctor from the remote jungle village where she was working, and now the retired homicide detective’s expert skills are desperately needed to save her. Led by a colorful, but perhaps untrustworthy local guide, Prescott journeys deep into the Bolivian Amazon, plunging into a world where the only thing more dangerous than the gun-toting drug traffickers and the ruthless tribesmen, is the jungle itself.

Who exactly is your target audience?
Revisado: 01-12-23
I have listened to all the books in the Prescott series. I’ll say the free ones are ok. Worth the listen to fill in time. Here’s my gripes.
I feel like you dont have much faith in the intelligence of your readers. The stories are ok. They keep you listening. What gets old very fast is how everything needs to be explained. Like “I had to research this so I’m going to insert my research right here. If I had to learn about it so do you..” it’s like he’s not a detective but a know it all teacher with incredible luck. It reminds me of the guy who tells a joke but has to explain every detail, just so he makes sure you “get the joke”. He’s basically a low rent Indiana jones.
The dude isn’t even old enough to have gone through the things this man has. He almost dies in every book. But has a superhero moment and saves the day. Every time. Surviving some of the most outrageous accidents and situations. Suspension of disbelief is an understatement.
This man is ridiculous with women. For his age, his crime experience is that of a borderline ready to retire super detective with the brain of a 14 year old when it comes to women. He’s in love in every book. Then the next book starts and he’s telling you all about his ex and why it didn’t work out but hey no big deal I’ll fall in love with someone new in the first 10 chapters. He even returns to this one because he’s so hard up he’ll fly to the Amazon jungle and TRACK THIS WOMAN DOWN…. Cartels, narcos? Oh and 1/4 million dollars..? Yeah I’ll wipe out all our savings, mortgage my sisters home and navy seal my butt into the flipping AMAZON JUNGLE… They stand no chance against Prescott and his animal companion of the book. I mean it’s just like. WOW…
Now I get to the end and this review. And what’s waiting for me. A new story!! And being the glutton for punishment I am, I was going to listen to it. Even WASTE A CREDIT ON IT.. but first it’s pre order, not even released yet.. so that saved me. Then I see it. The new book it a prequel. It’s going back to the beginning. It’s going to retell the same story we’ve heard 5 times now about his misadventures that brings us into the first book. Huh? Dude you’ve told this story in every book. We know the story. I have a feeling it’s just another textbook to learn all the new things the author learned during his journey to write the new book. Oh and look. It even explains what a prequel is.. it literally explains in the book summary that this new one takes place before the first book. And that chunk of wisdom comes at the end of the book summary, the end as in we literally just read what this new book is about and it STILL HAS TO TELL YOU what it means. I will not be listening to the new one. Because I already know the dang story and I just can’t take anymore mansplaining. (I’m a guy) and the mansplaining is just too much.
And I’ve spared you about the wisecracks and sarcasm. Every single conversation and or thought or even just in the many “explanations” ends with a wisecrack or sarcastic comment.
It makes me nauseous.
The African book- just couldn’t do it…
Jungle up- chapter 33 and I’m done. Writing this and returning them all. And I keep EVERYTHING I listen to in my archive. Thomas Prescott will not be taking up any space in my audible library. Sorry.
So listen cause it’s free. There are way worse out there. Just be ready to get frustrated. Superman Prescott can be way too much if you have any intelligence past an 8th grade education.
