There are many many things that I could complain about for this book (like the truly awful and lazy game mechanics) but the crowning achievement of how bad this book is it has the most ridiculous over the top awful antagonist of all time and that's coming from someone who grew up watching 80s movies. It almost makes me wish there will were real life moderators so somebody could ban this author from ever writing another book.

Good LitRPG book...Godawful narration
Revisado: 10-27-18
I've read the book on kindle and it was a enjoyable and fairly well done (especially for a first time author) book. The narrator though is perhaps the worst I've ever heard. It severely detracts from an otherwise good story. His attempts to change to different voices are way over the top and straight-up ridiculous. His attempts at accents are also a travesty. Would definitely recommend this book on kindle for fans of the genre but unfortunately the audible version is negatively impacted by the terrible narration

Weaksauce
Revisado: 07-19-18
How on earth do you write a story about a DOD "problem solver" that's killed people for a living for 30 years that's a whiney bitch with zero tactical sense. The characters in this series are stupid and the mythos is totally convoluted. There are parts of the story that have potential but for the most part it just falls flat.

Only a few weeks have passed since the Battle of Burrova, and Edward and his friends are busier than ever improving the Haunt and protecting the surviving villagers. Sadly, time is a scarce commodity in the world of Ivalis. Soon enough, Ed finds himself thrown in conflict against the man behind the mindbrood’s attack, a man who is seemingly capable of shrugging off mortal wounds and who is willing to unleash a devastating plague of undead against the Haunt and everyone inside.

A decent book ruined by excessive inner monologe
Revisado: 05-20-18
Title pretty much says it all. The book should have been better but the characters do the whole constant inner turmoil overly descriptive nonsense. It's even more frustrating during fight scenes. The last few chapters were practically unlistenable. I had to almost constantly hit the 30sec forward button in an attempt to suppress my overwhelming irritation. If it wasn't for that though I would have rated the book higher. It's a interesting enough premise and the storyline is solid. The only other issues are that the whole objective experience gain concept is stupid and the Dungeon's Lords minions are worthless. I was torn between rooting for them to get murdered so the MC could get better ones but at the same time not wanting to have to endure the overload of overly descriptive self flagellation from the MC that we would have inevitably had to listen too.

Nate Temple's all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate's smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his best friend.

Disservice to the Urban Fantasy genre
Revisado: 04-05-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Teenage boys with low IQs
What was most disappointing about Shayne Silvers’s story?
The dialogue was a total hack job and the main character contradicts himself constantly. He comments multiple times throughout the story about how he doesn't want people to know he is a wizard all the while walking around casually throwing around magic in public places in front of regular people and occasionally using it directly on them. On top of that he's a first class unlikeable douchenozzle.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Marcio Catalano?
literally anyone else.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
definite disappointment
Any additional comments?
From everything I could tell from others comments you have to get through book 1 and then everything gets better with the writing and a new narrator. Too bad it's damn near impossible to force yourself to struggle through the first book

Straight up awful
Revisado: 09-09-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different storyline, better characters, and intelligible dialogue
What was most disappointing about Michael Anderle’s story?
It was all bad. It was like reading something a teenager put together for his creative writing class. The storyline was completely nonsensical, the dialogue was just sad and ridiculous, and the characters lacked...what's that word again....oh yeah.....CHARACTER
How could the performance have been better?
If the narrator wasn't doing a piss poor job of trying to channel Yul Brenner every time he was speaking for the main character
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The concept behind the book wasn't bad, I mean it was interesting enough for me to purchase it (immediately got a refund upon finishing it which was a chore) but everything about the execution of the story was incredibly lacking
Any additional comments?
Don't read it. I can't for the life of me understand why the other people that have rated this book so far have given it decent marks unless their all friends of the author.

Before it happened, I bumbled my way through the virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game The Greenwood, made crap builds, and wasted my time. Then I got murdered. A shadowy figure took my hard-accumulated possessions and left me to die. I admit, I did a rage quit and deleted my character. Then I wondered what kind of person that rage-quit made me? Maybe I was a quitter? And maybe I really was someone who would let a bully get away with disrespecting me?

I've read fortune cookies that were better written
Revisado: 07-21-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't think of anyone that would find this enjoyable
What do you think your next listen will be?
Probably another book in the genre by an actual author that knows how to write
What didn’t you like about Kevin Thelwell’s performance?
Every character is the same and he sounds like a bitch teenager the whole time.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
ANGER.. ANGER that people have probably spent $ to read this horribly written book.
Any additional comments?
This was really bad. The characters were so unlikeable and the dialogue so bad that halfway through the book I found myself rooting for the villain to kill them all. Then I realized how poorly written was too at which point I was just hoping for an explosion to end them all abruptly.

Renewed my faith in the Genre
Revisado: 07-20-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Trapped Mind Project to be better than the print version?
Both are very good. After listening to this first book in the series I immediately went out and read the next 6 in the series on my kindle. All were great.
Have you listened to any of Tristan Morris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Can't recall off hand but he definitely did a very enjoyable job with this particular book. I enjoyed his presentation.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's litrpg. It's meant to be entertaining not evoke serious emotions.
Any additional comments?
As my headline alluded I've been a bit disillusioned with a lot of work that's been coming out in the genre lately. A lot of the books I've read lately have lacked a good storyline, or had poorly written characters, or weak dialogue. You can really tell this author is an ACTUAL AUTHOR and there's a noticeable difference.

Awful
Revisado: 07-02-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Nobody. There were no redeeming qualities
What could Ryan Koskey have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Completely rewritten it. I enjoy the LITRPG genre and I've come to expect that the stories won't be always be great but this book was insultingly bad. I can't decide what was worse...the completely ridiculous and unlikeable characters or the godawful dialogue that they spew.
Would you be willing to try another one of David Stifel’s performances?
No. I've listened to him before and while he does have a good voice he is incapable of narrating a story. He managed to make an already terrible book worse.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Launch?
Everything. There was nothing about this book or its narration that is salvageable.
Any additional comments?
I realize my feedback is harsh but I assure you that I'm not being mean for the sake of it. This book literally made me angry at how bad it was.
