I have used nicotine pouches (zyn, onn, etc.), vapes, and pipe tobacco for over 10 years. For more than a decade I’ve felt like a slave to nicotine, unable to quit, and miserable every time I used. For a substance so minor in its effects, its grip seemed impossible to escape despite my longing for freedom. I “quit” and relapsed more than half a dozen times before this book. I thought I would be trapped by addiction for life - until a friend recommended this book.

There is no way to give this book justice in a review. Quitting is easy with Easy Way. If you are considering quitting nicotine, this book will show you the way. Listen to this book, take back your freedom, and live nicotine free.

The book is great, and a classic for a reason. However like many other reviewers on here, the voice performance was incredibly distracting from the story. If it is your first time reading or hearing Brave New World, try to find it somewhere else. If you’ve read it before and can tolerate the over emoting of Michael York, this might be up your alley.

The book has certain “Silent Spring” vibes in the sense that a considerable portion of the book is established as a narrative, while also presenting scientific and statistical evidence for the authors claim. It is useful to use emotion to compel ones argument, and in the case of this book, I believe the authors usage of personal stories was compelling.

Listening/reading about the horrors of factory farming offer a sensory veil that can protect the learner from the atrocities that occur within the farms, in comparison to seeing it in person or on a screen. Yet, Jonathan Safran Foer excellently paints the horrific scenes within these farms. Many documentaries have been made and I suggest watching a few such as Earthings and Dominion if you can stomach any more after this listening to this book.

The performance was well executed by Jonathon Todd Ross, and my only issue was intermittent pauses. A pause can grant emphasis when used appropriately, but there were pauses in the book that lasted for a considerable amount of time - long enough for me to question if the audible app had crashed.

Overall it was a wonderfully insightful and terribly depressing book. If you enjoy cheap meat (especially in the US), and do not wish to consider alternative diets, you may want to pass on this book. If you are a truth seeker, and wish to see food production for what it really is, be prepared for a tough read, and power through.
