I saw Michael and Paul hawking this book on a late night talk show. I've always been a fan of Michael McDonald's unique voice and emotion provoking songs. Before listening to this, I envisioned him as a clean-cut, talented keyboardist, never considering he might have mastered other instruments or succumbed to the popular addictions prevalent in his industry. I learned a lot and still respect him immensely because his story doesn't take away from his undeniable talent. Reiser was a great choice to co-write the book. I got a steady flow of chuckles as I listened to Michael narrate Reiser's words. Reiser is a talented writer. As a comedian with perfect timing he needs to be skilled at crafting sentences to make the jokes flow as well as his do. All in all the book was informative, honest, and enjoyable to listen to.

The critiques who say this is cliche and predictable must be reading fiction that makes their heads explode. Because McFadden hooked me immediately with her writing and the narrator made the characters so real I cared too much about them. When I wasn't listening to the book, I fretted for the characters and wondered what they would do next. I had to keep reminding myself this was fiction and the characters that Lauryn Allman brought to life were just figments of McFadden's imagination. Listening to the story I found myself thinking, "Run away!" or "Don't go there!" then listening closely to see what they actually ended up doing. Frieida McFadden wrote a masterful psychological thriller with this one and Lauryn Allman did a good job of making the characters real. There were times her male voices fell short, but in general McFadden and Allman made a great team to make these fictional characters real and their plight something I cared about.

Unlike Farlow's book, A Quantum Convergence, that includes inter-dimensional travel and telepathy, this fictional story borders dangerously close to reality. The details of the story and dialog seemed so real I had to keep reminding myself the story wasn't a documentary of current world events. With highly accurate descriptions and authentic dialog Farlow helps you step into the shoes of the United States military as they decide if, when, and how to take down a menacing leader bent on teaching the world's big players a lesson in power. To give the reader a respite from the overall gut-wrenching adventure she superbly crafted, Farlow interlaces stories of the personal sides of some of the characters to show their humanity as they battle an inhumane monster. Narrator Hillary Huber should also be commended for doing an incredible job of bringing Farlow's story to life with her assortment of voices and skilled narration.

For someone who has enough funds to make a quality recorded book like "Is This Something?", the poor audio quality of this one makes it difficult to listen to. The first part is comments about how the show came about. That part is interesting, but the people making the comments sound like they are on speaker phones sitting across the room. The echo of their voices make it like listening to fingernails on the chalkboard. And when Jerry gives snippets of the different comedians he's interviewed, he ends a snippet by inserting a noise that sounds like someone is being electrocuted. I just didn't want to listen any longer.

This book is a fascinating journey through the extreme problems that can happen when our 5 senses go haywire. The author picks some extreme examples to show what life is like for people whose senses fail them. He then takes it to another more clinical level to explain the science behind the failure. The book was interesting because it exposed me to sense problems I hadn't imagined people suffered from and gave a detailed explanation of why they likely occur. From a broader perspective it helped me realize how limited our senses truly are even when they're working and how different life could be when they don't.

The narration was well done. The voice was easy to listen to.

Thought Provoking Story

The Shack was recommended to me by a friend who found the book life changing. I understand how this story could change someone's view about God to a more practical, logical, loving one. It's not a preachy story, but is a well-written tale that uses the story to open the reader's mind to the idea God isn't the punishing, uncaring, white-bearded master of the Universe. The author handled the subject of the little girl being abducted and murdered tastefully. That part of the story wasn't added gratuitously, but was a pivotal event in the whole story.

I also enjoyed the narrator's talent at changing tone and inflection to indicate different characters, but I was impressed even more by how he skillfully added raw emotion in his voice to capture the character's anguish and anger

All in all it's worth a listen.

I've read many of Sakey's thrillers and they've always managed to hook me in the beginning and not let go until they're done with me. Sakey has a real gift of creating a threat early on in his books that keeps me engaged until the end. With this book, he upped his game. His writing was more creatively descriptive and the multilevel story must have come from the deep recesses of his vivid imagination. It was clever, thought provoking and each new situation with the main characters kept me asking, "How are they going to get out of THIS?!?" If there was any weakness to the audio book, it was that he had a British woman narrating it. She is a talented narrator, but the tone of her voice seemed to be a poor choice for this type of dark drama. Maybe a British male or woman with a deeper voice might have been more appropriate. She didn't distract from the story, but her voice didn't enhance it either.

Pink Floyd is my favorite group. When I'm looking for music to listen to they are my go-to band. But as much as I love the band, I knew very little about their background story. I didn't know why Gilmour and Waters don't get along. I didn't know the part Syd Barrett played in the band. I didn't know how they got their name or where the album title UmmaGumma came from. And so much more. This book is a great source of that type of information and juicy tidbits. I loved how it started out with the separate, early careers of band members. And then how they came together. I loved hearing how they came up with the design of the album covers and some of the challenges that happened in creating those covers. Most times, when listening to the book I felt like I was sitting at a London coffee shop with the narrator and he was filling me in on the juicy stories that made the band what they are today. The author did an exhaustive job of finding first-hand reports and interviews to validate his information and painted a broad, complete picture of the band and the characters who made it the behemoth it became.

I wanted so badly to like this book. Being written by a psychologist, and the topic was a girl who connected sex to love, I hoped the book would explain how she learned to separate the two. But it didn't. When the book ended I was shocked it was finished. Where were the lessons about how to develop a deep love for another devoid of the need for sex? There weren't any. It truly was just a memoir of the sexual escapades of a loose girl. It could have been so much more. Very disappointing.

Tough Crowd, Great Book

I imagine some of the crowd who reads this book will be doing so with deeply entrenched ideas about the Bible and not likely to let those go. if that's you, don't bother reading this. But if you have an open perspective on the Bible and are interested in how you can get more value out of reading it, then you'll enjoy this book.

I've studied the bible for decades. I'm not a Bible zealot but I continue to find new value in it. Once you become awake and enlightened you'll realize that the words of Jesus normally taken at face value have much deeper meanings. That's why I got this book. I was hoping the authors would disclose the deeper meanings of Jesus' words. They didn't.

At first, I was thinking of returning the book, but I found myself enjoying the stories and new perspectives on Bible passages. Once I finished it I was glad I did. The stories were interesting, the authors' perspectives were too. And I enjoyed the narrator. He was easy to listen to and believable.
