Not worth the time
Revisado: 04-21-25
The characters were not well developed. The story was not engaging. The "surprise twist" was so predictable I thought it was a red herring. Then the story just ends as if the author couldn't bother themselves to write past their intended word count.

Perfect story and narration.
Revisado: 03-22-25
I was worried that, because this is narrated by Andy Serkis, the voice of Gollum/ Smeagol from the movies, the narrator would favor that character and all others would fall flat. Absolutely not! Andy did an incredible job of voicing every individual character with their own voices and personalities from the first page to the last page of the LOTR trilogy.

England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Not a fan of full cast narration.
Revisado: 02-26-25
Ironically, the full cast narration and sound effects preventing me from becoming immersed in the story. I've listened to single narrator versions of this story and always enjoy it. This time, I really couldn't wait for it to be over. It still gets a 4 out of five for great narration and story.

Terrible!
Revisado: 05-01-24
I'd like to give this a -3. The guided meditation came from a place of negativity, asking you to think of or imagine bad things, troubles, fears, etc. Instead of saying "feel the relaxation spread", it said "feel the pain, tension, and knots going away", etc. That's like saying "don't think of an elephant". The meditation portion was so fast you felt rushed and increased tension. The narrators voice was terrible.
This feels like it was written by someone who knows absolutely nothing of the subject. Terrible!

Historia
When you're doing something that's out of the ordinary, your mental programing, your paradigm, will try and stop you. If you want to win, you must keep going. Your paradigms may be masked in complacency, fear, worry, anxiety, insecurities, self-doubt, mental hurry, and self-loathing - the result is keeping you stuck...locked in a box and starved of your dreams and ambitions.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-19-24
This was only about 35 minutes of Earl Nightingale that I've already heard on YouTube. The other hour and 10 minutes was a lackluster interview and advertising for Nightingale-Conant publishing. I feel I've wasted a credit and the only reason I give two stars instead of one is because I like Earl Nightingale. The description could have read "forward by Earl Nightingale" and it would have been more accurate.

This guy wore out a thesaurus.
Revisado: 03-12-24
This is the first time I've been able to listen to a book at 2x speed and even then it moved too slow. The book could have been shortened to one page of things you've read in every other book on the subject if it wasn't for the overuse of fluff, filler, and 12 examples of the previous sentence. The whole thing sounded like a motivational speaker reading at thesaurus out loud . The first hour was spent telling the listener how amazing the rest of the book was going to be, while the rest of the book failed to live up to that promise.

Grade school level information in a Grade School level book.
Revisado: 02-27-24
There are at least a thousand other books that present the same information in a far better story than this, unless this was intended for grade schoolers. The author skimmed the surface of positive thinking and then presented it in a story so goofy it was hard to stay immersed.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.
