Historia
Before he was “Big Texas,” he was “Zac the Snack Pack". Bianca Brannen knows time - mostly - heals all wounds. Including those your once loved ones might have unintentionally given you. (Those just take longer.) She thinks she’s ready when a call has her walking back into her old friend’s life. Or at least, as prepared as possible to see the starting quarterback in the National Football Organization. Before the lights, the fans, and the millions, he’d been a skinny kid with a heart of gold.

Could have been a little more believable if
Revisado: 03-22-25
Love MZ’s books and Callie Dalton has never yet disappointed with her narration.
This book had one thing that just drove me nuts.
I realize this relationship is one that started when they were kids with a 7 year age difference. But once they reconnected as adults, it grated on my last nerve that he kept calling her “kiddo”. PeeWee was bad enough, but kiddo simply didn’t work for me considering they were supposed to be dancing around a relationship.
I might have felt better about it if he’d said he was using kiddo to keep his distance, but that didn’t seem to happen.
Just made the relationship seem,,,,not authentic. Otherwise? Very enjoyable.

Love the ideals!
Revisado: 03-17-25
Appreciate that the author, in this and the prior book in the series, takes on some hot topics in relatable ways. I think I’m more inspired to speak up for injustice.
The narration in both books is not so great. It’s not so awful that I couldn’t listen, but the vocal inflections of most of the female characters was barely discernible or not at all. That had me pushing rewind more than a few times.

Breaking news: The bad boy of baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped. Okay, that might not be the headline in the newspaper this morning, but it's the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She’d gotten a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I've known the girl since I was five, so I figured there wouldn't be any harm in having her stay at my place for a while. Ha! Total disaster.

Almost did not finish
Revisado: 03-14-25
Overall I appreciated the “best friends to lovers” with a side of baggage story and execution. It was fairly predictable, but even that was tolerable.
Maddox was a charm, until he wasn’t, but then he got his act together. He has a nice supportive friendship circle that’s equal parts amusing and tough love.
What I simply couldn’t abide was the one-sided character growth. Kinsley completely tramples over boundaries. She’s not responsible for the critical boiling point moment, but she does just roll right over many others. No permission on making changes to the house; no apologies without behavior changes.
Didn’t really see any growth on her side, and frankly I found her a bit annoying. Appreciated her passion and conviction, but it was a bit pushy and over the top so as to be rather annoying a lot of the time.

The delivery not so much
I wanted more development of the story and the characters. It felt too….choppy? I didn’t really get enough to truly connect with any of the characters, really, and I wanted to connect with all of them.
As a result, the plot just didn’t seem to develop as much as it just marched forward and then got wrapped up conveniently but not rewardingly.

But Kayla thinks he's just an ordinary guy who works in security. Good, as with the others, but….why?
Revisado: 10-23-24
I enjoyed the story. Maybe not as much as the NC storylines , but still pretty good.
But wondering if this is the start of a series in the Midwest? The next book seems to go back to NC characters (haven’t read yet) and this book doesn’t otherwise seem to advance the overall story.
As a standalone, I enjoyed it, but unless this is the beginning of a new direction in the series, it kinda made me shrug a bit. Guess we’ll see what happens…..

This isn’t a story about a love triangle. There is no triangle involved. This isn’t a story about an accidental pregnancy. Although having a baby with her...I would. This isn’t a story about lies and deception, even though at times I’ve lied to myself. No, this is my story. A story about sacrifice. A story about a man who fell in love with the wrong girl. A story I wish I never had to tell. I learned a long damn time ago, the only way to achieve my dreams was to avoid distractions - at any cost.

An interesting and unexpected ride
Revisado: 09-30-24
Expect a bit of the unexpected in this pair of duets. Maybe others saw it coming, but I was surprised. I almost gave up with the plot twist, but decided to stick with it to see where it went.
As romances go, this one gets into some tough realities before settling out to a happier ending. And while it leaves one wondering how the characters would have really gotten past the awkward stuff, it does seem to work out as it should.
A part of me feels as though the author addresses the female mental/emotional issues but glosses over the male ones, which I didn’t like as much, but overall I think she took on some sensitive topics with a realistic lens.
I wanted a bit more of the Sage-Rowdy wrap up , but maybe that will appear in another book. Or appears in a book I haven’t come across yet.
This is a slightly more intense read than the typical Meghan Quinn (or at least the ones I’ve read so far).

Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down.

Meh. Not my favorite of her work
Revisado: 09-20-24
I didn’t like the switch between first and third person for the male character.
The story simply seemed to have a few too many things going on. Rue had a suitcase of baggage. Might have been better to reduce to a purse full instead.

Historia
When grumpy ex-footballer Alfie Harding gets badgered into selling his memoirs, he knows he’s never going to be able to write them. He hates revealing a single thing about himself, is allergic to most emotions, and can’t imagine doing a good job of putting pen to paper. And so in walks curvy, cheery, cute as heck ghostwriter Mabel Willicker, who knows just how to sunshine and sass her way into getting every little detail out of Alfie. They banter and bicker their way to writing his life story, both of them sure they’ll never be anything other than at odds.

Charming, fun, relatable story with badly paired narration
Revisado: 08-13-24
Loved the story start to finish! Characters were relatable, equally dorky and amazing, fun and deep. I was rooting for them both in different ways.
However, halfway through I had to skip to print version because the narrator was so bad at differentiating the characters, it got to be too hard to follow.
The narrator’s voice is fine and her timing and articulation is great. But failure to differentiate the characters in this book made her a poor choice for this book.

Loved the crossover with several other series. A little cheesy, but still enjoyable and fun. A nice pleasant reminder of all the other books I’d read
