Historia
Neil deGrasse Tyson has a talent for guiding readers through the mysteries of outer space with stunning clarity and almost childlike enthusiasm. This collection of his essays from Natural History magazine explores a myriad of cosmic topics. Tyson introduces us to the physics of black holes by explaining what would happen to our bodies if we fell into one; he also examines the needless friction between science and religion, and notes Earth's status as "an insignificantly small speck in the cosmos".

Another erudite work by Tyson.
Revisado: 12-31-14
One of the premier scientists in the media, Neil deGrasse Tyson has been excellent in every work I've seen, read, watched, or to which I've listened. The host of the Fox program Cosmos writes on several contemporary topics with some added history as well. The verdict? Black science man knocks it out of the park again.
The author discusses the cover topic, but this book is not devoted entirely to black holes. Topics on which you will read also include tools that expand the senses, physics history, skepticism, phenomena at different scales, the intersection of science and religion, and several other topics. An erudite scholar and a wonderful composer of explanatory prose, Tyson is a key American ambassador of science. In a country appallingly devoid of science literacy, he has his work cut out for him.
I recommend this for people of all ages and for all fans of science. To the American public: read this book, please!

Historia
In physicist Stephen Hawking's brilliant opus, A Brief History of Time, he presented us with a bold new look at our universe, how it began, and how our old views of physics and tired theories about the creation of the universe were no longer relevant. In other words, Hawking gave us a new look at our world, our universe, and ourselves. Now, Hawking presents an even more comprehensive look at our universe, its creation, and how we see ourselves within it.

This fundamental historical question and its complex answer speak penetratingly to the spiritual impulses, concerns, and beliefs that have played a seminal role in our world, even as they reveal the foundation of history’s most global religious movement, and fresh insights into the Western world's single most influential human being. Tackling all of these matters and more, Great Courses favorite Professor Ehrman returns with the unprecedented historical inquiry of How Jesus Became God.

The first insider account of the work at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the discovery of the Higgs particle - and what it all means for our understanding of the laws of nature. The discovery of the Higgs boson made headlines around the world. Two scientists, Peter Higgs and François Englert, whose theories predicted its existence, shared a Nobel Prize. The discovery was the culmination of the largest experiment ever run, the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider.

Revisado: 10-29-14
Black science man does it again! From 10^-43 seconds to the present day, this is the evolution of the universe in a brief edition. It also tells us how we know about the evolution of the universe through experimentation and what will likely happen in the future (spoiler alert: the universe ends up to be a real clunker, totally black and empty, approaching absolute zero and everybody's dead.). A fantastic read for the fan of physics and science in general.

Essential early Christian history
Revisado: 12-20-13
Ehrman is an erudite scholar of Biblical history, especially as it pertains to early Christian history. This course was so interesting and informative that when I finished it, I started it again. If you are interested in the topics in the above description, listen to this course.
Note: This is not a devotional course. It covers the topics from the perspective of a historian, not from a theologian.

Historia
Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

Excellent Historical Critical Perspective
Revisado: 10-03-13
A fantastic course on New testament history conducted by Bart Ehrman. This work addresses such questions as:
Who wrote the Gospels?
When were the Gospels written?
In what order were the Gospels written?
What discrepancies are in the Gospels and why?
Who the wrote the Pauline epistles?
How can we tell who wrote these books?
Ehrman is erudite and well-regarded among Biblical scholars. This work does not disappoint and I highly recommend this and other Great Courses by Bart Ehrman.
Note: This work is from a historical-critical perspective, not a devotional perspective. It is academia, not religion.

In his first memoir, Richard Dawkins shares a rare view into his early life, his intellectual awakening at Oxford, and his path to writing The Selfish Gene. This is an intimate memoir of the childhood and intellectual development of the evolutionary biologist and world-famous atheist and how he came to write what is widely held to be one of the most important books of the 20th century.

The Memoir of a Genius
Revisado: 09-25-13
Dawkins from boy to young man, grad student to professor, science author to prolific and ardent spokesperson of disbelief. This book is the memoir of one of the greatest evolutionary biologists and an interesting character indeed. Very little science can be found inside, but you will get the full story of how Richard Dawkins came to be who he is today.
This is not exactly fascinating stuff unless you're a Dawkins fan, so I'd advise you to keep that in mind. If you are a Dawkins fan, it's a worthwhile read.
