A healthy, rounded, realistic, important conversation.
Revisado: 04-15-25
It’s easy to get polarized in the discussion of slavery and what impact that had and has today. Sean keeps managed to avoid the traps on either side of the discussion while addressing little-known details related to slavery in early American evangelism. He does so in an honest, transparent, honoring, and realistic way. For those wrestling with these kinds of questions (and those ignoring them) this would be a very valuable resource. Highly recommend.

Historia
Regarding gender relations, the evangelical world is divided between complementarians and egalitarians. While both perspectives have much to contribute, the discussion has reached a stalemate. Michelle Lee-Barnewall critiques both sides of the debate, challenging the standard premises and arguments and offering new insight into a perennially divisive issue in the church. She brings fresh biblical exegesis to bear on our cultural situation, presenting an alternative way to move the discussion forward based on a corporate perspective and on kingdom values.

Important new framework
Revisado: 07-31-24
Every American pastor and elder should read this book. It is an incredibly valuable first step in reframing our discussion about gender roles in the church in a way that is does not start from the same shakey ground as the discussion in the culture around us. The author does a phenomenal job tracking the origins of this issue in western culture. After that she does a thorough job of seeking a new framework in the scriptures.

Historia
Many today object to Christianity as a White, male-dominated religion that oppresses women and people of color. More than a White Man’s Religion not only debunks the mischaracterization of Christianity, but also shows how the gospel can inspire positive change desperately needed in our modern culture.
