Historia
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Great narration, excellent plot

I love the way the characters have been developed. My only criticism would be the ending, the concluding chapters felt hurried compared to the build up.

When a badly mutilated body washes up on the shores of Loch Ness, DCI Jack Logan's dream of a quiet life in the Highlands is shattered. While the media speculates wildly about monster attacks, Jack and the Major Investigations Team must act fast to catch the killer before they can strike again. Predictable.
Revisado: 10-16-23
The narrator does his best to make this book entertaining and gripping but it’s an uphill battle. The title of the book alone gives it away and the plot line is equally predictable.

Historia
Jackie and Pete King have lived in Dunmore for years, running one of the two local pubs in the sleepy little town. Money has been tight after the bushfires, and it’s about to get tighter if they can’t find a way to pay their suppliers to keep their business going and keep the bank from foreclosing on their property. So when Jackie receives a mysterious phone call offering them $100,000 to let someone bury a body on their land, the answer isn’t as simple as they thought it would be.

Revisado: 09-20-23
From the very beginning this story drew me in and after a few minutes I found myself gripped, pleading with the characters to do/not do something. Plenty of plot twists to keep you on your toes and a few ironic laughs. Great read.

Big fan of Will Trent series but this disappointed
Revisado: 08-28-23
The plot line was predictable, much of the dialogue was shallow, drawn out and repetitive. I don’t know where KS can take Will Trent from here but this was nowhere close to the earlier books in this series.

Now isn't the time to get distracted with other cases, but Detective Sergeant Lucy McVeigh doesn't have much choice. When Benedict Strachan was just 11, he hunted down and killed a homeless man. No one's ever figured out why Benedict did it, but now, after 16 years, he's back on the streets again.

One of the best narrators around
Revisado: 06-24-23
If you’re listening to a book set in Scotland it has to be narrated in a true Scottish voice. Cathleen McCarron nails it. The twist in the storyline is a bit hard to take at first but by the end it works well and will hopefully be the first of many with these characters.

Historia
In Broken Ground, cold-case Detective Karen Pirie faces her hardest challenge yet. Six feet under in a Highland peat bog lies Alice Somerville’s inheritance, buried by her grandfather at the end of World War II. But when Alice finally uncovers it, she finds an unwanted surprise - a body with a bullet hole between the eyes. Meanwhile, DCI Pirie is called in to unravel a case where nothing is quite as it seems. And as she gets closer to the truth, it becomes clear that not everyone shares her desire for justice. Or even the idea of what justice is.

The storylines were greatly enhanced by the excellent Scottish narration. The characters come to life, and would have been flatter and less interesting without the Scottish tones.

Revisado: 01-18-22
I really enjoyed this book, its well written, has relatable, interesting characters and some good plot twists. I will definitely listen to the rest of the series. David Thorpe's narration is superb, I have praised his narration in other reviews and can assure potential listeners that I am not in any way related to Mr. Thorpe, nor am i being paid to write this review!

Historia
The early 1980s were the most dramatic, colourful and controversial in our modern history. Margaret Thatcher had come to power with a daring plan to reverse Britain's decline into shabbiness and chaos. But as factories closed their doors, dole queues lengthened and the inner cities exploded in flames, would her harsh medicine rescue the Sick Man of Europe - or kill it off? Evocative, surprising and gloriously entertaining, Dominic Sandbrook's new book recreates the great turning point in Britain's modern history.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-14-22
I listened to and loved the previous books in this series, unfortunately, this book does not measure up. Firstly, the audio editing is sloppy to say the least, with numerous repetitions and mispronunciations. Secondly, the author's personal views, kept largely in check in previous books, show through more often than the claim to impartiality would suggest. I could undoubtedly have overlooked these faults were it not for the narration. I can only imagine that David Thorpe (narrator of Seasons in the Sun and State of Emergency) was unavailable. Thorpe is an excellent narrator, gifted with the ability to mimic individual voices, regional and national accents. Sandbrook tries to match Thorpe, but fails. His lisping Tony Ben impersonation and breathy Margaret Thatcher to name but two are cringeworthy in the extreme. So please Mr. Sandbrook, when the next book in the series comes out (and I hope it will) spend the extra and get David Thorpe to narrate it.

Revisado: 07-04-21
The narrator of this book, Julia Franklin, is one of the very best. The voices and intonations that she gives to the different characters make the book come to life. I highly recommend this book and the other Mick Herron’s (Zoe Boehm series) that she has narrated.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Great book, shame about the narration.
Revisado: 01-25-20
A story set in France and Germany. The characters French and German. Not surprisingly the book contains French and German places and names. Unfortunately the narrators pronunciation of theses names/places was awful to say the least. Could you not have found a narrator who could pronounce some “foreign” words properly?
