TANIS is a 10/10 classic podcast
Revisado: 12-25-24
Simply the best. Love how they tackle so much occult history while telling a great, spooky story. Storytelling and production are both 10/10. TANIS is a classic as well as the coolest.

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Incredible, bewitching book
Revisado: 10-20-21
I have been listening to this slowly for months and it is utterly bewitching. It is very long and honestly kind of slow but the detail and nuance and character development pulled me in and did not let go. The narrator is wonderful. I read that this is being made into a TV series and can certainly understand why it still captures so much attention. It is lush, sensuous, darkly romantic, unforgettable.

Historia
As he searches for a mysteriously vanished girlfriend, Haruki Murakami's protagonist plunges into a wind tunnel of sexual violence and metaphysical dread in which he collides with call girls, plays chaperone to a lovely teenaged psychic, and receives cryptic instructions from a shabby but oracular Sheep Man. Dance Dance Dance is a tense, poignant, and often hilarious ride through the cultural Cuisinart that is contemporary Japan, a place where everything that is not up for sale is up for grabs.

Weird, and not in the good way
Revisado: 09-11-20
The way the story handles the main character's relationship with a 13-year-old girl is just totally weird. He makes sexually suggestive, inappropriate comments that I just couldn't get past. (He is 34.) Then, near the end (semi-spoiler alert) another prominent character admits he killed someone, and yet the main character just feels bad for his friend - doesn't consider turning him in or even acknowledge the horror that his friend has killed someone. All in all a befuddling book that I probably should have skipped.
