The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide… Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

Absolutely loved and devoured this gripping thriller!!!
Revisado: 08-24-24
This is one of those audiobooks that you don’t want to end!!! I had a difficult time listening to the narrator, one of my favorite actresses Laura Benanti. Very early on I found myself annoyed by some mild over-enunciation, but I got used to her style quickly. She voiced and captured each character perfectly!!! I loved the intensity and the twists of this book and then end was very satisfying!

What starts as an open-and-shut case explodes into a web of new leads. Devlin and Falco get to work tracking down every single one - including a disturbing connection between the murders and Falco’s dark past.

It was a compelling story line.
Revisado: 07-14-24
There was a lot going on in this book, a lot of distracting directions that seemingly went no where, and many characters that were not necessary to the story. I had to go back and re-listen to sections numerous times to try and understand something. I loved the authors other books, and the ending was satisfying, but I can’t recommend this book. The worst thing for me was the narration. I hate being critical of a narrator, but I have to be honest and say the narration was the biggest distraction.
I wish I had listened to my initial instincts and asked for a refund early in this audiobook.

Historia
Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit have discovered a van at the bottom of a murky Florida pond. Sealed inside the watery tomb are the bodies of four teenagers who disappeared 30 years ago after leaving a rock concert. To authorities, it looks like a tragic accident. To Sloan, it looks like murder. Every piece of evidence is starting to connect to a string of cold case vanishings throughout Florida. Clue by clue, Sloan navigates the warm, dark waters where natural predators feed, knowing that the most dangerous one is still above the surface - nesting and dormant.

Mixed Feelings As Both A Diver And A Woman
Revisado: 06-20-24
As a diver and a fan of the crime thriller genre, I was excited to read this book. I was disappointed in some of the ways the female lead character was portrayed. Her character was muddy, at best, when the author paints her as both honest and honorable yet also someone who admits to trapping a man into a relationship by getting pregnant. That last part was not believable to me based on all of the other evidence of her character and almost made me stop reading.
Then she grabbed her “oxygen tanks” to dive with. 🙄. Why can’t you just say air tanks? Even the Nitrox mix only contains 32% oxygen. I’m not asking for perfection, but somethings are glaringly wrong. The diving references were amateurish at best, and some were just embarrassing to listen to.
For instance Slone is a reckless and careless diver. I am aware this is fiction and I tried to give some leeway, but any diver who took the risks that she took and acted with the utter recklessness that the author assigned to her would be dead. (Read Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson to see how actual human divers who take similar risks fare with these kinds of risks. Spoiler Alert: some of them die.)
I was intrigued by the story line, although the menagerie of life threatening situations and the sheer number of different types of crime and potential criminals was exhausting and eye rolling at times. I did finish the book, and despite the criticisms I had, overall I enjoyed the book.
I see this is a series… I am going to attempt to listen to the 2nd book, but if the diving references continue to be this bad I will request a refund.
