Historia
This book traces the entire arc of Ringo's remarkable life and career, from his sickly childhood to his life as the world's most famous drummer to his triumphs, addictions, and emotional battles following the breakup of the Beatles. Born in 1940 as Richard Starkey in the Dingle, one of Liverpool's most gritty, rough-and-tumble neighborhoods, he rose from a hardscrabble childhood marked by serious illnesses, long hospital stays, and little schooling to emerge, against all odds, as a renowned drummer.

Good Research
Revisado: 09-09-24
The author’s extensive research gave a lot of insight into Ringo’s life. While there were a few things that seemed out of chronological order and a few accounts of Beatles related things that didn’t match up with other accounts, overall I found it intersecting and enlightening.

I loved learning about what was going on in the world and in the changing culture at the same time as what was going on personally with the Beatles as they recorded Sergeant Pepper. It also covers the time just before and just after.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

I enjoyed this book very much. It pulled together a lot of the history that I only knew in bits and pieces. The narration was excellent. The writing was clear and concise.

Fantastic Adventure
Revisado: 12-18-19
I loved all three books in this omnibus. The technology is detailed (but not too much!), and the arc of the story carries through all three, even though each book feels complete. There are several point-of-view characters, but each one is so well established, they feel like old friends by the end. I appreciated and loved that the characters were of various ages, abilities, ethnicities, and even religions.
The narrator also did a great job.

Practical Advice with Inspiration & Encouragment
Revisado: 04-16-16
Any additional comments?
I had read this book when it first came out, but when I saw the audio version, I snapped it up. I'm glad I did. I think I got something different from listening to it, and it was a nice reminder of all that I'd read before.
This book is filled with practical advice as well as encouragement. I also find it to be inspirational, but not in a woo woo way. It's more that I can now see the steps I can take to improve my writing in many different ways and that is both inspiring and encouraging.
I think the audiobook is well worth a listen. If you haven't already read the book, it comes with exercises at the end of every chapter, though these are also listed at the end of the book as well. The narrator reads these out, but this audiobook does not appear to come with a PDF list of the exercises. Even so, they are simple enough, so I don't think that would be a serious problem if you don't already have the Kindle version or the paperback.

Fun Story with Great Characters
Revisado: 04-10-16
Any additional comments?
I listened to this book while on a road trip with my (adult) daughter. We both loved it. I was afraid it might be a fat-hating book or a book that made fun of people who were not thin. Instead it was a surprisingly fun book with great characters on a real adventure. It used some of the traditional vampire tropes, but also upended a lot of the tropes in a really fun way. I'm excited to read the sequels.

Historia
An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

It's Hard to Go Home Again
Revisado: 04-10-16
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book. The story was a bit muddled in some places and rather preachy in other places, but some parts of it were so well done and really resonated with me. Adult Scout visits home and feels out of place. She imagines herself trying to fit in this way and that way, but it's clear that she just doesn't fit. She becomes disillusioned in many ways, especially with her father, which is something I think many might relate to.
I think the problem with this book lies with expectations. The Atticus of To Kill a Mockingbird was a hero, but he was not perfect, and I didn't have a problem seeing that Atticus as the Atticus from Go Set a Watchman many years later. If that bothers you, it's still worth reading as a standalone.

Useful Information with Practical Action Steps
Revisado: 04-10-16
Any additional comments?
This book provides information and action steps about how to analyze books that are successful or popular to figure out what makes a great book great. I think this helps one to become a better writer, and I hope it helps me to be a better writer and creator.
The exercises at the end of each chapter are super useful. I loved having the audiobook so that I could listen while on the go, but it's also useful to have the Kindle version also so that I could highlight and take notes and reread some parts. I highly recommend both versions of the book.
The narrator had a pleasant voice and did a good job.

The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Great Production of a Classic
Revisado: 10-27-15
Any additional comments?
This production/narration was so well done. It's a story told in letters and journals, so having a different narrator for each part makes a lot of sense. I think I enjoyed it so much more because of that. The narrators were all spectacular. The book is a great read, but you have to have some patience. The beginning is nice and creepy, the middle can be a bit maddening, and the last third or so of the book had a lot more action and adventure and answers. Very enjoyable.

Helpful Book, Lots of Information & Encouragement
Revisado: 09-07-15
Any additional comments?
This book was fantastic. It was written in a somewhat conversational tone, but the information was well organized and very useful. Some of the things I already knew, but was glad to have them reinforced and to be encouraged that I was heading in the right direction. I also learned a lot that I didn't know or hadn't yet discovered that I needed to know.
I loved the narrator, Simon Whistler, too.
