Not awful
Revisado: 05-06-25
Confusing at times, love the multiple story lines but not consistent about character development. And why does every male voice sound like he’s got a mouth full of cotton, a protruding bottom lip, and huge frumpy mutton chops?

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

I wasn’t sure at first because the storyline is not only unusual for the author, but unusual in itself. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it and was sorry when it ended.

Historia
A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

Sweeping epic
Revisado: 01-23-25
I’m 60 and first received this book from my grandmother when it was released in 1983. It was her favorite book and she was my favorite person. I’ve read or listened to it more times than I could count and as I age, the story grows with me. I still cry, I’m still frustrated that women have been struggling for autonomy…and then I remember it’s a work of fiction, yet still so relevant. Especially now, when once again priests and preachers and politicians are using religion to control women.

So glad for a narrator who gets it right. I only wish the previous volumes could be redone to get rid of the whiners and mispronunciations. Excellent writing deserves excellent narration.

The story is great not the narrator
Revisado: 04-25-22
It’s lucky the story is so good otherwise I couldn’t have made it through this narrators terrible voice choices, or his inability to properly pronounce words. Barracks is not pronounced bar-racks- for instance. Also the gryphons extend their “ssss” they do not sound like demons. So bad.

Great story terrible narrator
Revisado: 04-23-22
He mispronounces words, adds inappropriate emotion; and overall reads the book as if he’s reading to children who don’t understand nuance - which he decidedly lacks. His range of voices is severely limited, all non humans sound like villains with laryngitis, and the women are simpering.

Join Clara Parkes on a cross-country adventure and meet a cast of characters that includes the shepherds, dyers, and countless workers without whom our knitting needles would be empty, our mills idle, and our feet woefully cold. Travel the country with her as she meets a flock of Saxon Merino sheep in upstate New York, tours a scouring plant in Texas, visits a steamy Maine dyehouse, helps sort freshly shorn wool on a working farm, and learns how wool fleece is measured, baled, shipped, and turned into skeins.
