Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Didn’t want it to end
Revisado: 02-21-25
This was another winner by Kristin Hannah, and at times I had to stop listening just to catch my breath - it was so gripping and I was completely caught up in the relatable characters. Highly recommend!

Meh
Revisado: 09-16-24
I love this series and love Rachel Hatch, but this book was a bit of a let down. The narrator was good, as usual, however the plot and story line were dull - not at all like previous books in this series. I was bored thru the majority, and Hatch wasn't her usual kick-ass self. Seems like Ryan and Shea were just throwing something together to get it out and published. Disappointed.

Good plot
Revisado: 04-04-24
I have enjoyed this series, and I find the plot lines to be engaging. The narrator does a good job of distinguishing the characters with voices and accents. However there is one thing that has caused me to hesitate in continuing the series - the author seems to feel the need to add little authorial intrusions to insert rather pedantic commentary which comes across as preaching or as talking down to the reader/listener. The protagonist is telling her story and describing the situation and the characters, and then the author will add little asides that are so frustrating. After describing one character as someone who follows a strict schedule, she added a comment to the reader saying “there’s a lot to be said about having a routine and adhering to it faithfully, but if you’re not careful, you can become a slave to that routine”…. She inserts so many of these authorial intrusions that it is distracting as they are usually so obvious, that I’m thinking, duh, what was the point of that diatribe? It was a waste of time and added nothing to the plot. As I said, I enjoy the characters and the general plot, but the constant commentary is irritating.

Good story line, ok performance
Revisado: 03-28-24
I’ve enjoyed the Kane and Alton series, and this story line is complimentary. I like the plot, and the narrator is ok but doesn’t differentiate very well between characters, so it’s often hard to determine which character is saying which lines making it hard to follow at times.

Not worth the time or money
Revisado: 02-08-24
The story starts off with yet another attempted sexual assault of the lead character, as if that is the main theme for all females in the story line. The first book was ok, but this one is terrible. The narration was so bad and so fast that it was painful to endure. I know the author was the narrator, but the pace was way too fast and she rarely altered her voice. Very disappointing.

Poignant Story of Love and Friendship
Revisado: 02-03-24
Being a child of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, this story touched so many chords with me. I recognized the clothes, the music, and the themes as if I were there. I love Kristin Hannah’s stories, and she doesn’t disappoint with this one. Be sure to have your tissues handy for the last 90 minutes.

Truly one of the best stories I’ve ever read/heard! I literally couldn’t stop listening, even when it was time to sleep. Not since I read The Notebook have I had such an emotional reaction to a story.

Lucinda at her best!
Revisado: 12-15-23
I’ve been a Lucinda Riley fan for years, but I just got around to this book. It is absolutely fantastic - kept me fully engaged to the point that I couldn’t get to sleep until reaching the end of a chapter, which of course led to yet another chapter, and so on. The plot was relatively simple yet told in such a unique manner from a unique point of view, and the narrator was spot on with the accents. Loved it!

Not Great
Revisado: 11-30-23
I am nearly half-way thru the book and can’t take it anymore. This is not as good as previous Kay Scarpetta books; it drags on and on and is just plain boring. I hate to say this as I’m usually a fan, but save your money.
