Historia
So many board members - especially of small nonprofits - want to support a nonprofit and readily accept the invitation to join the board. It's only then that they discover they are in over their heads, with no idea of their expectations and responsibilities. The Little Book of Boards is here to throw that drowning board member a rope.

An easy to digest, well-rounded introduction - AND REMINDER - to board service
Revisado: 12-28-24
This was a quick listen and gave me an excellent understanding of a board’s role and responsibilities. I appreciate the cautions and transparency of this book. Erik doesn’t sugar-coat board service while giving you confidence that you belong on boards even if this is your first experience.
My favorite thing - this book is good for board members of all levels. It is an excellent reminder of the roles and responsibilities of each member and the board as a whole, can redirect a board that may be helping out in the wrong ways, and empower staff to engage with the board in a healthy manner that is built on trust and boundaries. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, experience, and making recommendations for supplemental learning. I’m on to the next “Little Book of..” Empower yourself. Choose this book.

Historia
After the loss of her mother and her own battle with breast cancer, Joanna Teale returns to her graduate research on nesting birds in rural Illinois, determined to prove that her recent hardships have not broken her. She throws herself into her work from dusk to dawn, until her solitary routine is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious child who shows up at her cabin barefoot and covered in bruises. The girl calls herself Ursa, and she claims to have been sent from the stars to witness five miracles.

Enjoyable. Which "story" version is true...

Engaging & Magical
Revisado: 03-13-23
I loved this book. I’d love to see this as a film, it could be really amazing. The “true” story is still a mystery to me, which made the book better in my opinion.
The writing got really repetitive at times - especially when referencing a character speaking (ex. Ursa said, Jo said, Gabe said..) Some creative or even a few varying terms might have made a huge difference.
Overall, I enjoyed this book.
