Historia
Whatever the form, whatever the treat - sugar drives us wild like nothing else. It’s lingered on our tongues for millennia and found its way into almost every household in the world. Alas, the history of sugar is far from sweet. Long before it was linked to America’s obesity epidemic, sugar was fueling the dark forces of exploitation, colonization, conquest, and slavery. More than just candy and cake, sugar has drastically altered the diets, cultures, and economies of the modern world. How can we love sugar while having a healthy relationship with its bittersweet history?

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening. It was quick and engaging. I learned new tidbits, and I especially enjoyed the part about Halloween, the Day of the Dead, and how bunnies became associated with Easter.

Historia
New Yorkers Paul and Darren have planned a winter holiday in Venice. But when their five-year marriage suddenly unravels, Paul endeavors to make the trip alone, despite his heartbreak and anxiety. Far outside his comfort zone, Paul has a mission: to see if he can be adventurous, fearless, free. In short, to become someone new. Soon after arriving in Italy, he notices a small, scruffy, self-assured dog trotting alongside a canal with the confidence he so desperately wants for himself. This street dog and his instincts for survival lend Paul’s trip a singular purpose.

Enjoyed this tale of self discovery
Revisado: 02-03-21
A great, quick listen. I initially downloaded it because I love Venice and the plot seemed sweet. It wasn’t everything I thought it would be - like I believed the main character and the dog would spend a lot of time together while touring Venice and they didn’t - but I enjoyed how the main character by the end was on the road to becoming more independent and happy with himself. NPH did a good job voice acting the emotions. My only complaint is some of his Italian pronunciations were wrong. I wish the director or someone behind the scenes was able to correct him.

Historia
The bloody-minded Montresor leads the pompous Fortunato deep into the catacombs, seeking the famed Amontillado wine. Here we have one of Poe’s most terrifying, and most “beloved” tales. Revenge and pomposity commingle beneath the river’s bed, leading to a delightfully sinister conclusion.

A classic for a good reason

I love this Edgar Allan Poe story and B.J. Harrison's narration is wonderful. I love the way he does both characters' voices and the emphasis he puts on certain words. This story is a true classic, appropriately creepy and the narration had me even more engaged with the story.
