Historia
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

The bias and inaccurate narrative driven by the author
Revisado: 03-25-25
I found the writing good, but the anti-Mormon slant and disrespect to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and its members, utterly reprehensible. The books is filled with boilerplate anti-Mormon propaganda. Members of the actual church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints see the FLDS as extremely evil and depraved. To associates us, the members of the church, with them is exceedingly offensive, to say the least. The narrative drawn in this book is very regrettable in regards to members of the church of Jesus Christ the latter-day Saints, what the author is doing here is stocking the fires of hate and ignorance towards members of the “main line Church”.

Interesting concept, but terrible execution
Revisado: 08-22-23
Truly one of the dumbest books I have ever listened too or read. It starts out interesting, but the meanders around like a drunk trying to stagger down a side walk. If you are looking for an entertaining and intelligent story, look else where. This one is a complete train wreck.

Not Agatha!
Revisado: 01-27-23
I would have enjoyed this book more if it hadn’t been a Poirot story, if it hadn’t Agatha Christie’s name on the cover. As an AC fan I was disappointed, the narrative and style is very different, and I found the plot and resolution to be a bit weak by AC standards. It is a mildly entertaining story with likable characters, and the narrator is awesome, sounds like multiple narrators doing different voices.

Neo-Marxist propaganda, with some interesting facts sprinkled in.
Revisado: 10-17-21
Very disappointing book. It had some interesting and informative conclusions on some subjects covered, but not worth all the Marxist-esque propaganda one must wade through to get to the good points. The authors, quite apparently, are woefully un-self-ware their own biases. Garage book, IMO.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Blake Crouch’s best book so far!!
Revisado: 07-23-19
I’m a fan of Blake Crouch’s books, and this book was one of the best of his, and IMO, the best. The story takes a little bit to get going, but before you know it your on an intense roller coaster ride. Blake Crouch is such a fantastic story teller. Can’t wait for his next book!!

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

This book was the worst. I hated it.
Revisado: 04-20-19
Such a liberal + atheist propaganda piece. I am not easily politically triggered. I am not a part of team MAGA. I am good with other people having different points of political views than I do, but the author of this book went out of his way to ridicule and demonize those he odviously has deep personal issues with. If you read this book, having no other context about American culture than what you read in this book, then you'll come away thinking:
Capitalism/Capitalist are evil
The American south states (Mississippi in particular), are worst than third-world countries (my family comes from the southern MS area around where to book is set, so I take particular personal offense to this stereotypical garbage)
People from these southern states are stupid and/or corrupt
People that believe in God are small minded and stupid
People who voted for Trump and support him are either evil, stupid, crazy, or all three combined
People who believe in sexual fidelity, within or out of marriage, are old fashioned, behind-the-times-rubes
Etc, etc, etc...
Greg Iles obviously has great talent in story telling and writing, no doubting this, but he uses that talent to lace in toxic leftist propaganda into what would otherwise be an entertaining story... except the very ending of the book. He really choked at the end. Ran out of a good idea on how to end his ridiculously long book.
Anyways.. in summary, the book really sucked. I really hated it, and did not appreciate the demonizing of those who obviously have different political, religious, and life-style beliefs than the author does.

Interesting concept, poorly delivered

This story is terribly disjointed, seems really unfinished. Jumps around. No fluid flow to the story. Promises a lot, but sadly doesn’t deliver.
