Terrible narrator!

I didn’t listen to the sample and assumed it would be the same narrator (whom I loved). Like another reviewer said, I won’t be preordering future books. In fact, if the new narrator stays on, I’ll not be buying any more of Penny’s audiobooks.

Excellent narration

The story was intricately woven with the historical facts. I have enjoyed all of Gregory’s books. This narration does justice to Phillipa Gregory’s insightful tale.

Another home run for Grisham

Not Griffiths’ Best

I have enjoyed many of Elly Griffiths’ books but not this one. When the mystery is finally solved, it is unsatisfying. There are parts that don’t seem to fit.
Overall, I was disappointed. If this had been my first Griffiths book, it would probably have been my last.

Must be for young readers

I must agree with some of the other less than glowing reviews. I tried but was unable to like it. These stories must be written for children or young teens. The plots are too obvious and there is way too much focused on the mischievous cat. I couldn’t get through it. It if much too sweet for me.

Sorry I purchased this one

It was an interesting idea for a story but it moved too slowly and was not well executed. You get glimpses of intriguing characters then they say something so banal, you realize it was your own imagination that there was depth there at all. I gave up about halfway through, just too frustrated to continue.

This book was listed under “Thrillers and Mysteries” but it should have only been listed under “Horror.” I didn’t get far before I had to stop and still had a disturbing dream that night. Very disappointed!

I can’t wait to read more in this series and by this author. Monk’s loss of memory was woven into the story to provide a unique twist to the investigation. He was tracking the killer while trying to understand himself as well. Great “read.”

Too predictable

Filled with cliches and overly dramatic exchanges. Stereotypical characters and predictable storyline. Narrator was good at multiple voices but most of the story told with a near-monotone. I almost stopped listening several times but continued to the end in spite of poor quality.

Slow start but great book

At first I didn’t think I was going to like this book. It’s very different from what I usually read (listen to). But I fell in love with it the same way the characters in the book—a most unlikely pair—come to love each other.
