Historia
During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

Fantastic plot and characters
Revisado: 05-05-25
I have loved every one of Lucy Foley’s novels. Each is unique and this mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Fabulous acting! Multiple actors worked well and more novelist should use this approach. Recommend!

Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Tensions with the British, and with the Spanish in Florida, just a short way down the coast, are rising, and slaves are starting to become restless. One of the best hisorical novels I have read
Revisado: 12-29-24
This novel based on a real character was captivating and informative. I hesitated to buy it thinking I wouldn't be interested in South Carolina history, but there is so much to learn about life for women in the 1700's in the colonies. What a strong and brave woman. I have been thinking about this book for days after finising it and am so glad I chose it.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Outstanding performance of a complex mystery
Revisado: 12-29-24
Lots of unexpected twists and reveals in this mystery that is another great novel by Lucy Foley. The performance by the entire cast and especially Clare Corbett as Jess helped me enjoy this book even more than the Guest List which I read. It makes me want to listen to the audio version of the Guest List now.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Witty novel with lovable female protagonist
Revisado: 12-29-24
This was a story that dealt with loss and hurt, but was also very humorous.. The characters development was excellent and Helen Laser did a fantastic narration. Really enjoyed this book and the opportunity for something serious and funny at the same time and no murder, missing children, murder, etc. Made me smile.

Sweet romance, great narrration
Revisado: 11-14-24
I really enjoyed this book. It was a well written story that had me yearning for Jesse and Mac to come together. Nice life lessons on following your dreams and importance of family. Devon Chandler is my new favorite narrator. She was fantastic as Jesse and the other female characters, but her ability to narrate the conversations with Mac was incredible. I could feel the chemistry and sexual tension, and enjoyed the teasing banter that she portrayed. Highly recommend this book and want more from Liz Leiby and Devon Chandler.

Absolute best of Kristin Hannah!
Revisado: 03-31-24
I'm a huge Kristen Hannah and Julia Whalen fan, but this novel blew me away. Such an important story and the author revealed the truth of this American tragedy by making it so real through her characters. As a medical student I did my psychiatry rotation in a VA Hospital in 1979. Almost all of the inpatients were Vietnam vets and I remember feeling that I should be afraid of them. As I got to know them I remember feeling overwhelmed with sadness and anger at the portrayal of these emotionally damaged men as villains. We all had the newspaper photos of Mai Lai seared into our consciousness. I am very grateful for Kristen Hannah's commitment to reveal this story, and especially from the perspective of the Women.
